Hi, can anyone say if the Nicosia Orphanidies s'market in the South, on the way to the "balls" roundabout is still open and functioning ? I ask because when we visited a month ago half the shops in the mall were closed and it was looking a bit derelict.

Kind Regards

Diana

I think it started to 'take a dive' when McDonalds pulled out, cos that was a big attraction - but Southern prices have got to such ridiculously high levels that, except for certain items, it's not worth going South any more - especially when you have to pay €25 for insurance for a normal size car and more for 4x4's.

So, by the time you add in insurance, even if you go to the mall and Ikea for lunch, that lunch is no longer the bargain it once was.

I'm afraid it's the same old Cypriot [North & South] business mentality - if business is slack, wop up the prices!

They've obviously never heard of: 'Pile 'em high and sell 'em cheap!'
