Arise SIR Phil........ Phil "the Power" Taylor marched on last night and beat up Barney in the World Match Play to notch up another title, the man is 50 years old, husband, father, grandfather and demonstrates a hunger and desire thats unbelievable...he has nothing to to prove, won the lot many times over many years.......He has achieved domination like no other sportsman and if you play darts you can appreciate the level and consistency he reaches are mind boggling...... it goes to show that Practice makes Perfect ( as near as damn it )......move over Federer, Tiger, Messi, Pele, etc.....Phil is in a different league albeit in a Pub game...Make it an olympic event and we will be gteed a GOLD medal in 2012

Hi Essexdan I think you have allowed your enthusiasm run away with you. I accept Phil is a great darts player, possibly the best ever, but a great sportsman he is not. regards Doug

OK, he'll never win Wimbledon or the Tour de France, but he is a great dedicated professional in his own sport. To have achieved that level of excellence for so long is quite an achievement.

Come on Doug, If dressage, rifle shooting and synchronised swimming are in the olympics, why not Darts?? Sure darts would get better viewing figures!! ..... cant remember sitting round the TV waiting for the shooting to start

John, the score was 18 -12 .... he broke Barneys throw and never looked back. Barney thought he created two chances to break back leaving 2 dart finishes for Phil to go out on 105 & 135 ... heart breaking for Barney ... Phil averaged only 105 ..... ONLY

Whilst sports such as squash (the chess of ball games) which involves a degree of fitness, skill, and intelligence, no less than any other physical sport devised struggles for continuity of Olympic recognition, darts will always be thought of by most as a game rather than a sport. That said, Phil Taylor, as a darts player really is something extra special !
