In a tiny piece by the side of the main column is an item about rumour,s and how they spread intimating that Cyprus 44 is a good tool for this, his he right?Do we use this forum just so restaurant owners can freely advertise, businesses get free adverts,I myself have recieved a great deal of help in respect of directions and people who pioneer and then pass on their knowledge. And eating out we find that peoples opinion, on wether a place is worth going to, or leaving alone is very helpful. But does the flu become the black plague after doing the rounds on 44?

44 is useful to people but there are a number of people on it who, to put it bluntly are ownright dangerous and troublemakers with their ill informed opinions and accusations, we know who they are, as they do, they have no place on public forums, they make posts and dont tell the truth or avoid giving straight answers to questions.

Then theres the so called smart ar*es who think they are of a superior intelligence, maybe they should move to pluto there may be 'things' of similar intelligence there.

Then there are the ones who couldnt make it in Britain and moved to TRNC looking for shangrila, now they come on here moaning and bitching about everything and everybody because it is not to their liking.

Lastly the advertisers who post continuously 'cant blame them as the board admin allow it' but sorry I for one find there are many great places who dont need to advertise here, and I avoid those who do with minor excptions

I use Cyprus44 regularly to investigate rumours but then try to check to see if there is any basis to the rumour. It is good that posters can then add comments to counter anything that is just a rumour. I wish there was an edit button so that I can delete or edit a comment as there is on NCFP where you have up to 20 minutes to change or delete what you have written

I have made some good friends through Cyprus 44.The fact that some people use it as an advertising tool, doesnt bother me in the slightest.God knows its hard enough to make a crust these days.I have leaned alot about Northern Cyprus, the Ottaman empire and mossies since joining three years ago,and will carry on posting as long as allowed.I assume Stephen Day is a local Cyprus reporter (please excuse my iggnorance) does anyone have a link for the piece.

One thing that does worry me though is which category i fit into,

Paul.

Maybe if he were to put his opinion on Cyprus44 instead of getting paid to publish bits in the paper he would have a bigger audiance and one which took greater notice of what is happening today. People will always talk and rumours will always abound - like the one about the Japanese attacking the USA, who would have believed that unless they had seen the film?

At the least a good rumour will get you thinking about what might happen. My bet is with C44 and not the words of an ex MP who now wishes to impose even more of his thoughts on people over here.

Msg 1. Yes absolutely.

Too many ill informed opinions. forums are great for directions, where to buy etc but when people start giving advice on subjects they are laymen in (based on their own limited experience), it can be damaging. Also, people with complaints are quick to air them, whilst satisfied individuals tend to be elsewhere being happy - Therefore giving a slanted, negative view on the actual situation.

Take CTA as an example. Loads of people on here were gleeful about it's potential demise and many said it would be best if they are gone. Now look at the situation. Less choice, higher prices and money going to the south.

Property is another one. There are plenty of happy buyers but there's no point in airing that here as the unhappy who frequent this forum will shoot you to bits. Most satisfied owners I know dont bother posting here anymore... Again, more slanted viewing.

Many categories Paul. Football/Rugby Fan, Humourist, Wind Up Merchant, the whole gambit, with some well researched and diverse posts on current issues. Well rounded personality. Not sure though what Hull does for your street cred but you have brought it into the limelight !

I have always thought of Stephen Day as an inetlligent guy and respected his opinion, and yes I think it was said tongue in cheek. But it made me think is this how rumours spread?and also I wouldn,t mind a little wager in that, the article as achieved its aim. Don,t know if you log on Stephen or have friends to keep you posted but if thats the case well done.

I for one welcome the users opinions! it's then up to me if I take the advice given or disregard it! I have found out many useful tips on the forum.

I accept that there are many more negative comments than positive but that goes with human nature. As for whinging brits you don't need this forum to find this is more normal than not for the British attitude, and yes I am British!

In any case, given the recent "Upheaval" in the ranks of the BRS, I would have thought that Mr Day would know more about rumours than anyone else on the Island. At least it gets his name in the papers and that's what any politican is after anyway.

Keep 44 going there is always a pearl of wizdom in the threads and its fun trying to find it, so much helpful information there already and if you have a problem in the TRNC you can bet the farm - it won't be new and somebody else will already have had it, seen it, got the T Shirt and have the answer.

Having in the past discussed Cyprus 44 with Mr Day, I can assure you he doesn't ever use it and finds it a "hotbed of gossip" and "totally irrelevant", his words not mine. Why he then even mentions it I am afraid I cannot understand, seems a bit of an attempt at a one upmanship sort of jibe.

Personally I have always found the forum to be very useful, ok some of the threads end up meandering a bit, but after you have been here a while you know how long to keep checking a thread before you let go.

Long may it continue to give service and help to it's users.

Stephen Day is entitled to his opinion wether it be tongue in cheek or not.I would have thought though that as Acting Chairman of the BRS that he should look at the forum more often and not categorise everybody with the same brush- who knows perhaps he might find that he may gain more BRS Members!!

I personally find that Cyprus44 is very useful and have a few lively debates on current issues as well as sport.

I do agree that the forum is here to let everybody air their views wether it be good or bad about some establishments and the service they receive.

Everybody has something to say on the property issue as well so long let it continue.

Basically I find the Forum enlightening as well as entertaining.

As forums go, cyp 44 is good way to catch up with evrything, just need to take some of it with a pinch of salt.

A forum is as good as its members, no 2 ways about it, and its up to us to ensure it works well both for new members or people who have just arrvd on the Island as well as everyone else.

Definately need more football, newlad you up for fantasy football for the coming season?
