Saint,

Depends what medication. Some medication is available over the counter in the Chemist's, that is only available on Prescription in the UK.

Such as Voltarol.

Don't know anything about Doctors though....sorry

You don't register with a doctor or dentist - you find one nearby or one you like and you get treatment. You pay, but is cheaper than UK. You can buy medical insurance, but not sure what that covers

Hi, anyone living or visiting Bogas/Famagusta area, might like to know there is a comparatively new clinic on the Karpas road just south of Bogas. It is constantly manned with english speaking doctors and is associated with the new private hospital in Famagusta, therefore can cope with most emergencies.

I used them twice for minor problems and found the service excellent

We have received wonderful care from a private doctor in Girne. Recently my husband need to have some blood tests so the doctor arranged for the haemotologist to visit him at home before we went to work. The results were back that afternoon and the doctor rang us with the results. As sparks said, you have to pay if you want this kind of care but I cannot speak highly enough of the way we have been looked after - for a fraction of the cost of the UK and with a far greater efficiency.

As for prescription medication, just take your packet along to the local pharmancy and they stock most things. Some of it is ridiculously cheap, some is quite pricey, but at least you can get them when you need them without having to wait for the doctor to sign the script.

I know a very good dentist. Her name is Mrs Seda Serger and her number is: 0392 815 88 99 (Girne)

Her rooms are very clean and her equipment is brandnew!

Hi B&B,

Yes, he is Doctor Erkan Cheliker and his clinic number is 0392 815 4950. He normally works at Girne Hospital in the mornings and then at his private surgery in the afternoon. He also has a resident optician who is very good indeed.

The surgery is on the back road that runs parallel to the main road through Girne. It is a detached building on the left just before the right hand turn that takes you back down to Astro supermarket.

Kitty1 LOL! We live in the block directly oppsite Chelika Hastanesi! When we were buying we thought we were unlikely to get any huge building built to block our lovely mountain view, as the clinic is well established.

We have only ever seen the occassional noisy party for some young boy having 'the snip' while all his realtives wait outside, camcorder at the ready, often on the back of flat bed trucks, banging drums and tooting car horns!

We have often wondered what else went on there - liposuction and nose jobs for TRNC celebs? Most of the time he is tendng his roses in the front garden

Thanks for the info - i won't have to worry if hubby gets ill will i!
