Does anyone know whether the new proposed border crossing at Yesilirmak (I think that's how its spelt) is open yet? I'm trying to work out how best to get to TRNC now that CTA is no more. Flying into Pathos would be very convenient for us but only if the new proposed border crossing was open. Welcome any information.

Probably another 4 years, same as it took to finish Girne by-pass. Or maybe never is more likely.

Hi the latest info

http://www.cyprus-mail.com/cyprus/limnitis-crossing-hits-new-snag-over-road-width/20100520

Please remember not to call it a 'border' ( it's a crossing point to everyone except TR / 'TRNC' ) until you are in 'TRNC'

How many more times Mark? Again, you call it what you wish, and I will call it a border if I so wish.

I think we are all sick of hearing that silly statement from you. Give it a rest!

If not a border, why is the 'Green Line' guarded by the national guard of both sides and UN, and why all the expense and rigmarole involved?

Also, why should EU citizens be subject to all the hassle and expense?

There is a house that's taking a chunk out of the road on the Sunny side

I was there in late June and the road to the border was getting worse with general ripping out of the only tarmac that was already chewed round the edges

As to travelling from Paphos to Girni quickest way is via Lefkosa using the dual carriageways

One problem is it just Cyprus Airways that are banned from Turkish airspace or flights going to Cyprus

CA have lost two or three days flying thanks to their greek brothers striking

I'll call it anything you like - but it looks, feels and smells like a border to me complete with customs and passport checks.

re msg 7

I KEEP mentioning the 'don't say it's a border' in the 'rump' RoC to save 'embarrassment' ..

As recently as a week ago I gave members a link to the GREEN LINE regulations

http://ec.europa.eu/cyprus/documents/turkish_community/greenline.pdf

You'll find that the 'rump' RoC authorities are merely doing the duty that the EU degree - as it is the first point that Immigration / Customs duties can be implemented - as they don't have effective control of some areas of Cyprus...

If you want to hear a GC taxi driver tell you that "the only borders in CY are the Med.. " be my guest... ;)

Well on the 20th of July the "UN" closed the border on the dark side because of the rioting GC's in Nicosia
