Hi everyone living in the TRNC is anyone interested in doing a news bullitin.



Now that Frank and Joan are leaving for France I will miss his news letters



keeping us up to date with the latest news, and his social life.

Just received Cyprus Today Wed July 21st.

Headlines

'Capital gains'. New flights to & from London hailed as a glimmer of hope for the TRNC embattled tourism industry but industry leaders say a shortage of airline seats is still leaving it in a "pitiful" situation. And there are fresh warnings that soaring ticket prices in the wake of the CTA collapse will price NC out of the holiday market. Reports of up to £800 being demanded for a return ticket from the UK brought criticism from travel agents and tourist leaders, who cautioned travellers could buy an entire package to another destination for that. Anadolu Jet will start Stanstead - Ercan flights via Ankara.

Orphan Tolun Travel Agents Association said figures showed TRBC tourism remained in a 'pitiful' position. CTA had 40 flights to UK, v Atlas Jet 8, Anadolu 7.

Mr Tolum said his own company was an illustration of the resulting damage 'My company averagely carries 1000 passengers eevry July and August from the UK, and..

Mr Yagarata hit out at spiralling fares for flights to & from the TRNC, warning 'If ticket prices go on like they are now-and at £600 to £800 you can travel to the Maldives for that amount -then our market could be damaged forever.'

His words were echoed by Mehmet Dolman, chairman of the TRNC Hoteliers Union who issued a bleak forcast. 'We have heard about new companies and new planes coming to the North, but with these ticket prices, I don't think there will be a Northern Cyprus tourist sector very soon. Demanding £800 from passengers is simply a disgrace and cruel. They can easily buy a package holiday elsewhere for half the price.' Mr Dolmaci & Mr Tolun rubbished claims on Monday by Transport & Communications Minister Hamza Ersan Saner that he expected ticket prices to fall from this week. Mr T described the comments as 'tragi-comic' and Mr D added 'The time has passed for...
