................. and silica gel powder or crystals? Does anyone have any idea where we can buy these two things here in the TRNC? No I'm not making some dodgy homemade device - the citronella is for mozzies and the silica gel is in readiness for winter to draw dampness out of the wardrobes. Many thanks in advance.

You'll probably have to buy your citronella oil at Homebase in the South - approx €6 for 500ml - you'll need to burn at least two lamps to be effective. They sell the lamps as well on the same counter. Don't forget to buy a packet of spare wick to fit the lamps, as the ones that come with the lamps are very short and burn out fairly quickly. Burning citronella oil makes the tip of a wick carbon crisp quite soon, so you need to regularly 'trim your wick'!

Two bottles should easily last you the rest of the season.

Tenakoutou - Thank you for that, very helpful. We have about 4 of the torch style lamps and finished the oil we brought from UK and were hoping we could get it this side. Oh well, looks like we're going to have to do the trip south after all.

It'll cost you 25€ for a month's 3rd party insurance at the border. Haven't you been South before?

Have just been to Aydin pharmacy (opposite Starling in Lapta).

I have just bought the last two bottles of Citronella oil.

13.50TL for a 30ml bottle.

Hatice the owner is going to order more and ring me when it arrives.

I will update this posting when I hear it is in stock.

If you haven't located any by the time the new delivery arrives, let me know and I will arrange to get some to you.

Regards

booitsme/ re msg 6:

€6 for a 500ml bottle in 'Homebase' - approx. €6 for a 30ml bottle in TRNC = the same price for nearly 17 times LESS than you can buy in 'Homebase'.

So, to buy 500ml @ Aydin would cost approx. 102TL - I'm pleased to know that you can afford it, 'puppylover'!

Thanks to you both. I think the citronella oil they sell here is more like the aromatherapy oil which I suppose I might be able to add to "normal" lamp oil - I would think it would have the same effect! I'll give you a ring Judy to see if there's any more at your local pharmacy and give it a whirl. Tenakoutou, we have been south before but try to get stuff this side if at all possible. Plus it's a hot and sticky journey "down south" in this weather when the only air con in the car that works is from the gaps around the windows

that sounds great but I can't find any lamp oil in the north at the moment. where do you buy it?

Tenakoutou before you say anything I do not spend my money in the south as I will not add to the economy over there.

Cheers

Tenakoutou - I did say thank you for your help and advice but I did say that if I can buy in the north I will. The advice on how many lamps to have burning was also useful. If I can't get the "makings" on this side then at least I know where to head to on the south.
