Maybe a silly question but we have just received a speeding ticket stating that our car was caught by speed camera doing 87 kph in a 65 kph zone - namely the speed camera on the hill near Onar Village. Fair enough you may think but my wife would have been driving at the time and as she passes that camera every day on the way home from work she always slows down for it. Also, on the day in question, there were roadworks taking place as part of the construction of the new bypass and it would have been impossible to get to 87 kph even if you tried. My wife is absolutely certain that she was not doing anything like the speed mentioned on the ticket.

So the simple query is, can you appeal against a speeding ticket and do the police provide photographic evidence of your indiscretion.

Also, does anyone know if the speed cameras are calibrated on a regular basis - I think I probably know the answer to that one

Thanks

Paul

go to the police staion and ask to see the photo of who was driving and the speed car was doing... you will then see if it was a real speeding ticket or not

Definitely query it.I remember reading last year about a tractor driver who was issued a ticket for going over a 100 ! He went to the station on his tractor to prove it couldn't be him.!!

I had one for 70+ in a 50 limit you need to go to police station in Lefkosa to view the pictures

I could clearly see my wife's face in the passenger seat

Believe it or not I think they are more advanced than the UK ones being digital and internet controlled

asked the question about calibration of the machine but the question was unable to be answered I did remember going through the army base from Ercan over the limit

Ask to see the calibration certificate of the speed camera in question - if one exists, which is highly unlikely, check the date. Tell them you saw a butterfly flutterbying near the speed camera!

Does elko2 know the legality, or otherwise, of TRNC speed cameras?

Way back last year, the EU banned them all in the South due to 'calibration issues' - I'm not sure if they are still banned from use in RoC now.............
