Over the past few weeks I've gradually moved to containerise all food. Every kitchen cupboard has been cleaned out a dozen times. I've run out of ant powder and don't seem to be able to find it in any of the supermarkets, in fact one of the staff in Erdener last week seemed to be explaining to me that there is no ant powder to be found anywhere at the moment.

Someone told me to put mint leaves down across the doors to keep them away from the house. It might be working, although if we get a lot of wind, the mint ends up blown in to the garden! But the ants don't seem to be coming in through the door (they're not that polite!)

We've siliconed every gap we can find around the cupboards and windows and now they look to be coming in through a plug in the middle of a kitchen wall. I can't silicone the plug! Any ideas what to try?

i have the same problem in my kitchen!! the amount of times i have traced there tracks and put boiling water over there nests, ant powder etc etc they seem to come back after a couple of days.

Last year i called the belidiye and they came around and sprayed the house and we where free of them. İm going to do the same again next week. in fact i called them around last month becouse we were having lots of cockroaches turning up in our bathroom (shivers...) and since then havent seen a single one.

Thanks both for that. I asked one of my neighbours if I could do that and he said for cockroaches yes, but not for ants. I'll give it a try anyway. I'm going through bleach like there's no tomorrow at the moment!

I do believe that ants hate peppermint so that may well do the trick! Do you have any peppermint plants or oils?

I have found that the best thing for killing the ants & also destroying the nests are the little square plastic baits made by Vape or others & sold in a box of 4. The ants go into the plastic block & then carry the poison back to the nest. This doesn't work instantly, but it is the best long term solution. You just have to be patient, even if you think it isn't working, it will.

The quick alternative is to clear out your cupboard & spray with Sertac ant spray. This will kill the ants but they will be back again.

Ants, unfortunately, are a fact of life in Cyprus.

I use ant powder by SPIRA you can get it at most supermarkets. i try to leave it down for a few days they take it back to the nest & it works just great. I try to follow the line of ants to see how they get in & cover the area with powder & if poss cover the nest. I think it is only about 4 or 5 TL. They do not seem to come back to the same place so well worth a try. Please take care using if you have cats or dogs not sure what problems it could cause them.

I just saw them for first time in my flat 2 weeks ago, and sprayed them with fly killer which does the trick

then got ant killer spray from shop and think I finally got rid of them. Day before guests left and although

they left it clean they did leave a chocolate filled biscuit on the window cill! Enough said! I have put all sugar

etc. in plastic sealed containers, and fingers crossed..
