Yes, you can get ITV1 on a 1.8m dish..you can also get Channel4 and FIVE...

Sub is not required for above but a SKY freesat card is necessary.

I am in the process of updating my website with some recent info as well as a full channel listing for 1.8m dish.

Note the increasing number of HD channels available for the 1.8m dish

If you call me on 0533 8610329 i might be able to help you over the phone.

Linnyloos

You need a 1.8m sat dish as well as a SKY settop box and a SKY subscription.

If you contact me, we can arrange a free site survey at your property & to give you a quote.

No.....but a more sensitive LNB might clear some channels which are on the limit of reception and break up.

LNB technology is always improving and i am always on the look for a better functioning model to use on my installations.

iceman,i take it that all the stations on variaty and knowledge mix are free to air and you dont need to pay monthly subs.

They are all part of SKY package & encrypted, so a monthly sub from SKY is required.

Only Channel4,FIVE,ITV1 & SKY Three you do not require to pay monthly,

but you still need a Freesat card from SKY to watch them cos they are also encrypted.

Hi Iceman

You seem to be the chap who knows so heres my question to you...

With a 1.8 metre dish already picking up digiturk, could it also feed another property with sky? with a dual something and a sky box and card from UK?

Thanks in advance

angeypangey

If you have a 1.8m dish and watching digiturk,it means your dish is pointing at Eutelsat W3 at 7.0E

SKY transmits from Astra 28,2E so there is more than 21 degrees difference between satellites.

This is technically not possible...the gap between two satellites in the sky is too much for multi sat reception.

SKY reception in Cyprus requires a good quality dedicated dish, fine tuned on 28.2E

If this dish was going to be used for multi sat reception then it would have to be pointing at 28.2E

and second LNB pointing to a satellite next to it...such as Eutelsat 16E

Hope that answers your question.

Just to back up Iceman - the HD box with HD packages will mean a 1.8m is a REALLY good compromise... Most HD signals are FAR stronger - therefore stable.

You can get many UK sporting events ( Wimbledon, F1 GP - all practice, qualy, race, and repeats) Glastonbury, Proms, many Rugby games, "final Score"/ Football focus" - or what ever they call it now runs all Sat pm .. and much more )

If I wanted to get a friend in the UK who has Sky HD what would be required for him to upgrade to Sky HD Multiroom, so that I could benefit here in Cyprus?

What type of LNB is required (Black Ultra)?

Would he have to pay the un-subsidised price for the HD receiver (Multiroom), or would SKY give another another subsidised HD receiver?

If the HD receiver would not be subsidised, could he buy one from elsewhere and still get SKY HD Multiroom?

Would the additional subcription be £10 for multiroom and another £10 for HD?

Can you buy a "Magic Eye for HD" and additional "SKY HD remote control" that would work over here?

Thanks.

Texas,

if your friend got a M/Room box on his account and you brought it out and he gets the dreaded letter - your 2nd box isn't plugged into the telephone line - we intend to charge you full price - neither you - nor he will be too pleased ..:(

An HD sub is £10 on top of the £ 10 m/room .. so £20 GBP

A SKY Plus ver 8 or higher remote will operate an HD receuver - but NOT vice-versa !

YES, a tv link works in CY.. but you have to remember the second TV will be using aerial cable - won't be in HD, and if someone changes the channel in t'other room .... !

re msg 4

a Freeview TV tuner can only receiver TV signals from a TV aerial

Putting it delicately.. would you expect to get CY TV on your aerial in the UK! ? ;)

*FREESAT* uses the same satellite as SKY receivers- the signals are the same.. you just can't 'open' the pay channels from SKY, and encrypted channels like SKY 3 ( soon SKY News) and the strong ITV that can be received on a 1.8m.. you HAVE to have a SKY sub subscription card or a FREESAT from SKY card.

The strong channel five also requires a SKY card, but there is a frequency that is in clear - but only on a 4.2m in Cyprus

While you wait for icey..

If you can stretch to it go for an SKY+ HD receiver and at least a basic package ( just over 20quid)- you'll get ITV on a well installed 1.8m dish AND you can record

The HD channels ( cost 10.25 GBP more monthly) are stronger in CY

Currently only a few ITV regions work in CY on a 1.8m - so it IF it important to be able to record ITV - be sure to tell any supplier,

There is no guarantee that the region you might get will stay strong.. as in November the strong regions changed following an 'update' by Astra ( the group that supplies most SKY , Freesat content)

Mark

I used to have ITV HD in my Add Channels menu until recently.

Then when it became channnel 178 it was no longer possible to manually add it to the Other Channels.

Therefore, on my 1.8m dish (and Sky+ HD box) I cannot pick up any ITV channels - unless you can advise me how to do it.

Any thoughts?

Paul90. Try this:

Click "Services" - Then Arrow Down - Scroll Right to "Other Channels"

Scroll down to "Frequency" - Type in "11973" - Press "Yellow Button"

Here you shold see ITV1 Central S, ITV1 Central E and ITV1 HD.

Select your channel by pressing the yellow button. Press SELECT twice, scroll up to Add Channels.

Scroll left to "Other Channels" - Click Select, scroll to ITV1 HD, click Select.

Simples!

Error!

2nd line should read "Click "Services" - Then Arrow Down - Scroll Right to "ADD Channels" NOT OTHER channels.

My apologies.

Hi Paul 90

In addition to these ITVs you'll also find more of them at 12402 - you only need to alter the freq and press the yellow button

Texas.. how stable is the ITV HD on the 1.8m ?

I also had 12482 and not 12402!!

Hi Mark,

Only ITV1 and ITV1 HD. No others on a 1.8m dish. There are lots of regional ITV1's.

Also, as these channels are stored in "Others", I cannot pause, or rewind. I can record onto a DVD recorder, so all is not lost.

Also, Iceman had a go at me for "acting like a Turk". I bought a quad LNB instead of just a twin!

A question for you Mark.

If I use a VPN (perhaps yours) could I access Sky Player, or will Sky know that I'm not really in the UK?

Hi Texas

If you use my vpn you can currently access your SKYplayer - Sky don't seem to be rigorous with their 'geoblocking' of VPN traffic - that can could but for now....

Thanks for confirming re the HD stuff - I had hoped some HD channels had moved to 'better' places in the November 'shakeup' .

Is this because you were an ex-captain of a prestigious golf club?

I am only a humble player, so maybe that is why I cannot get ITV 2/3/4.

Can I telephone you? I have your number.

The ITV 2,3, 4 HDs are on 11758 on Astra2 A north beam and cannot be added manually to a SKY HD box..

Coffer, the info iceman supplies ( http://www.skycyprus.com/index.php?pr=SKY_TV_in_TRNC_&_Channel_Listing&=SID) may be out of date since the November 10 shakeup, but suggests that the HD channels you get shouldn't 'work' ? ;))

Hopefully, iceman can shed some light
