I am having problems with my laptop with the caps lock key coming on when it likes, i would like to disable it and just use the shift key. A google search has shown a couple of ways of doing this which involves altering the registry or downloading a utility that will do it automatically. I am hesitant to try either in case I cause more problems than I solve. Any advice or help would be appreciated. Thank you.

You could try using the on-screen keyboard until you've resolved the problem. In Windows XP, Go to Start - All Programs - Accessories - Accessibility - On Screen keyboard. If on-screen keyboard is not there start it in Utility Manager by pressing the Windows key and U key. The keyboard can be set to stay on top and open when you start Windows.

Get somebody who know's what they are doing to have a look at it for you is my advice, could save a lot of hassle and expense in the long run.

Jam a screwdriver under the Caps Lock key and prise it off - fixed!!!!! That is the non-technical approach - lol. Technical approach involves deep pockets as your laptop either has a fault on it or you have recently loaded some new software - try to remember if you did load new software just before it started to play up and if not then take it to the repair person. H&N Computers would be my choice.

Remove the keyboard, place in an ultrasound bath for a short time, then leave to dry in a hot room for a day. That's if you can find someone with an ultrasound bath. Sounds like a sticky micro switch.
