1992 Pajero? that sounds like it uses R12 refrigerant...

You will struggle to find anyone who has R12 in stock.

Dave/Rick, thanks guys, will get it sorted this week once I figure out how to stop the damn compressor from leaking - bodge tape and chewing gum seem the best bets right now!

wadoo

If the leak is on one of the joints, it could be fixed with a new set of O-rings, but if its from one of the compressor seals, there is NO way you can fix it with "bodge tape or chewing gum".

Working pressure on the high side of a R12 AC system can go as high as 200psi (and more) in Cyprus heat!!

No tape or gum can hold that pressure.

iceman, bodge tape and chewing gum is a tounge in cheek comment - although I have seen high performance aircraft used in the defence of a country with this tape (Chiefys Tape) "modification" holding down wing panels - after painting some of these panels even flew many thousands of miles and dropped large things that go bang on a far southern airfield (well almost on it) so my faith in bodge tape is still quite strong.

I think the leak is a joint leak but because there is so much oil/dirt/dust and general crap surrounding the whole thing I will need to give it a clean first to find out - with luck it will be "O" rings but my luck is not that great.

Hi Waddo, Mike the printer here, as you know I also have a Pajero and had problems with my aircon, must be three years ago. this is not a cheap vehicle and repairs to mine cost I think 800 Tl. Apparently there are four major parts to consider, without all four you will not have effective aircon. There is a chap at Karsiyaka, who did mine, he knows his trade, he is very fair and I think reasonable, if you need him let me know and I will phone you directions, he is very easy to find. Best Wishes, MIKE

Ps Still waiting for ink from UK for printers but they are looking good.

Thanks Mike, if the chap is Ziggy then I know where he is as he fixed my oil leak last year - engine out and in with new rear seal fitted and most of the core plugs changed in a day - very reasonable cost as well considering the amount of work involved and the cost of the parts from the South.

Wine went down a treat!!!!!

Hi Waddo,

No it's not Ziggy, he is where I go for general things. Ziggy sent me to this chap, he is a specialist in aircon and automatic gearboxes etc. No this chap is at Karsiyaka and it would pay you to call and get your system tested. I firstly went to Ziggy for a regas and he called this chap in to do the job 100TL and that was wasted money 'cause it was all lost when the system was repaired.

Glad you enjoyed the "plonk". Best wishes, MIKE

Any aircon repairer worth his salt would re-gas and add dye to the gas and ask you to come back in 1 week to see where the leaks (if any) are. And if there are leaks then they should (after repairing) re-gas for nothing.
