When i switch off all my electricity at the main fuse box, i've noticed that the spinning wheel keeps spinning, albeit, really slow...but nevertheless, still turns....what does this mean? Is someone stealing my electric? (I do get extraordinary high bills) And does anyone know what i can do about it?

Hi there,

Get someone to get access to the back of the meter and check how many cables are connected to the outgoing side of the meter, you should have only one going in and one going out. If there are two going out then someone is stealing it. If that is the case go out at night and switch off the supply to your meter and see if other lights in the adjacent area go off, and there you have the culprit.

If you have only one cable coming out, still switch it of at night and check surrounding buildings in case some one has tapped into your out going cable.

I hope this helps, all the best.

Hi daisy dukes,

It might be a good idea to contact elko2,

http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/show-member.asp?member=elko2

As there may be legal implications too.

Hope you catch them soon, as you could be paying for their air-con etc :-(

Good luck,

And keep us posted.

No problem we would just need to agree a place to meet.

Hi all,

Isn't it possible that the slow turning of the meter is caused by the Fridge?

I found to my cost that leaving on the water pump can also be an expensive mistake. If you tank(s) are full, then turn the pump off and save money.

I think such things are more likely than someone stealing the Lekky.

dublinderm,

She said "When i switch off all my electricity at the main fuse box, i've noticed that the spinning wheel keeps spinning,"

So probably not the 'fridge then...

From a lady who admits she is too scared to change a plug!

I must admit I interested - I like to sound of switching off your own electricity and watching someonelse's house go dark. I wish I could be there.

It is not uncommon for people to steal electricity, but normally they do it before it get to the meter. My wife's uncle (an electrician) did it for years.

Hi dublinderm

"I wish I could be there."

So do I, switch the power off, wait till they come out of the house,

then switch it back on, wait till they're settled, then switch it off again ))))

daisy dukes could sell tickets!

Just wait until half way through Corrie or whatever the locals watch.

I can just hear the screams now.

Daisy Dearheart,

As previously advised you need to get a competent person to have a look at your fuseboard. As your main isolator switches both the live and neutral conductors off, then someone may have nefariously connected a cable to the incoming live side of the isolator. A relatively simple thing to check by an electrician.

msg 13....yes i am rather an electrophobe, and absolutely hate changing plugs...however, flipping a switch with my wellies on, is not that difficult!

As an update, i had the very pleasant and competent AJ come by and take a look, with his trusty screwdriver and little electric machine register thingy, and we discovered, that not only did it still keep turning...albeit very slowly...it also changed direction for a short time too!

The only reasonable answer to why it was doing this, was....a dodgy/faulty meter, but this is a new one fitted about 6 months ago!!!!. I have since been to Kibtec and after an hour and a half of explaining...no one was sure what to do, and they ended up just shrugging their shoulders saying we are closing now.....

So nothing has changed....

Although i have just this minute had a call from Nige, and he has suggested that i film the spinning disc, and show them this at the office...maybe i shall get a better response...cross fingers!!

There seems a slight, but only slight, possibility that your meter has been 'cypriotised' - if so, such a dastardly act would surely be a 'first' in TRNC!?
