Fernando Torres today confirmed what all passionate REDS knew- he loves the club and is staying!

So brace yourselves for another fantastic season(along with the trials and tribulations associated with supporting LIVERPOOL) and I genuinly believe that Liverpool will be a surprise package this season.

New Manager, Players making Commitments, New Owner, MONEY!! We are on the rise!!

Chelski and Man City will finish below us this season, Man Utd- let battle commence!!

angus, i am also looking forward to the new season. As long as our new manager gets the team playing good football, i think thats what Liverpool supporters want most. Last years performances were not up to standard but i have a feeling that this year is going to be different. It would be good to finish in the top four but i think this year will be a year of building, who knows if the new owners throw some money in to buy another good striker then things could really get interesting. Slur Alex will be looking over his shoulder at a few teams this year, Man city must be in with a shout at the title after the money they are spending and Chelsea are in the market again, could be a great season!!

Yes Geoff,

I hope we compete in ALL Trophies this season.

Have been impressed with the younger generation especially in the last Europa Cup match , they did very well and all bodes for a better season.

See RAFA still haunted Man City at weekend haha!!

I think Roy Hodgson will give youtrh a better chance than RAFA and Im sure an entertaining season lies ahead.

My top 4 (not in any order) Liverpool, Man Utd, Spurs and Chelski.

Sorry Gooners but Arsenal just do not seem to be getting anything settled and this Fabrecas saga is not helping you. I think you and Spurs will be main Cup contenders though. I see a fall for Chelski as too many too experienced players coming to end of shelf life.

Man Utd are always going to be there but dont see Wasp Chewer getting everything his own way.

Spurs I do think are going to surprise a lot by staying in top 4 now they have had that taste

Liverpool, well we are going to enjoy this season on and off the pitch!!

Torres is not committed to Liverpool or he wouldn't have seriously considered leaving.

Liverpool will struggle to finish above Everton let alone win anything.

Ha Ha ang1706,

Only time will tell.

For the first time for ages David Moyes has a fit squad this season and they all work hard for him.

I prophecy Everton finishing 5 points in front of Liverpool at the end of the season and 4 points for Everton from the 2 derby games....no problem !

Sorry Ang,,and prove you wrong but the finest team on Merseyside this season will be Everton. What David Moyes has achieved with such limited funds is amazing.Everton have so many talented young players who want to play for the club, which makes a very big difference indeed.Liverpool fans have this obsession about beating Man United, but seem to forget that there are more then two games ina season.

The amount of money that Liverpool have wasted over the last two or three years is nothing short of criminal. If they had been in business as a manufacturing company they would have gone belly up a long time ago.Just watch those youngsters at Everton go for it this season, and prove you wrong.Nothing wrong with dreaming Ang,but when you wake up you have to realise thats all it was.

There isnt even Thursday night on Channel 5 to look forward to this season either. The Pool are a team in decline, and its really time that you learned to face facts,

Paul.

shayneward, i see we are back to the old ' Liverpool have never won the Premiership ' tack. Now i am happy to admit that Liverpool have never won the Premiership, but in that case, you have to accept that the 18 Leauge titles that Liverpool have won are, and will be forever a record!!!!! Now choose what you want either Man U and Liverpool are equal on titles as Slur Alex is always claiming or Liverpool's titles are seperate to the Premiership, your choice!!!!!!

Its typical all the winging Mancs come out of their closets and come up with nothing practical.

Shame as if there is a team that is waiting for big big big decline like the last time its MAN U.

Paul I do not know what you have been reading but there is no way liverpool are the team that you are talking about.

Everton have spent millions as well, so forget all the praise for Moyes on a small Budget haha any Evertonian will hate to be labelled a small club!! Moyes has been there at Goodison for 8 yeras now and won what!!

Yes its a new season and new things are going to happen and sorry but I like Man U but soon Scholesy and Giggsy are going to have to leave and then you will start declining as no other player (Rooney I thought but his World Cup was a spoilt Kids sunday game played in the rain) who has the bottle that the former guys have.

Once Fergie goes the decline will happen and whats more he knows it, no big trophy this season and your on the way DOON!!

I think he will provide a lot of skill and trickery and show younger players how to enjoy the game. He will link well with Stevie G and El Ninio and watch the goals fly!

I do believe as I said earlier that tomorrows game is important to lay a marker down! Nothing but at least 4/5 will do.

i agree cole is the better player and certainly get the crowd off their seats.my only concern would be he has had a few injury problems of late but if you can keep him fit what a free signing he would be.chelsea letting him go just does not add up.maybe a chelsea fan can enlighten us

The takeover bids for Liverpool are now getting interesting. It looks like the new stadium is back on, the outstanding debts are to be settled and if the reports are correct £150 million to spend on new players.

I can hear the Kop chanting now,

Well was not the goalfest thjat I wanted but the performance was excellent.

Joe Cole will be a handful this season and if a better striker than NGOG was there he would have assisted in at least 4 goals.

Good result, interested to hear what the 'Nuetrals' think!!

Are we ready for a good campaign!!

I was not fully impressed with the performance last night. The team showed more commitment than last year but there was something missing. Maybe as angus said a better striker would have increased the scoreline and overall i thought the team played for each other in a match that turned into a practice game.

I am really looking forward to the Arsenal game, that is when we will find out if we are going to be competative. the squad looks fitter than they did last year so whatever Mr Hodgeson is doing at training is a lot more than Mr Benitez was doing. Time will tell, but as the song goes, ' The only way is up '

latest ive heard is if the club isnt sold RBS will call the debt in on october 6 . they are being charged £20million for failing to sell it before august end and the way they have structured the debt ie PIK the club are being charged £2.5million a week ! word on the grapvine is none of the interested investors will meet hicks and gilletts asking price and all will wait and let RBS call the loan in ( it may be £400million) and then fight to buy it of the administrator appointed by RBS. been on radio today if this happens the club will be docked nine points due to premiere league rules about going into administration. in a word they are in shitus creekus , none of the investors interested seem to have hard cash behind them , the chinese geezer is a bullshiter and has retracted his statement that the chinese govt investment arm CIC is behind him .

This increasing scenario for football clubs started when over the years greed caused them to become corporate entities which increased wealth but of course PLC is a different ball game leaving them vulnerable to big business sharks and a world of business well beyond their experience. Manchester United with it's bragging rights of biggest, best, etc may well implode as like all these clubs everything is finance and not fan driven.

Great start to the season proper - the 'song' was sung , the crowd were roused to a state of euphoria, the players' looked confident - then the match started! 10 men behind the ball at home to an unusually toothless Arsenal team. Poor old Cole - never had to defend as much before, even when he was starring for the 'Hammers'! You know you have problems when the real world class midfielder does all his best work in his own penalty box. Where would they be without Stevie G.? - still just about everybodys' shift now includes covering for Jamie C. They have to realise, if they are going to win anything, they have to have a go at teams, especially at home, not wait until the opposition lose possession - then launch it to Fernando, or whoever is trying to fill his boots. If not they will continue their slide - or maybe turn into some throw back Italian team from the 80's - boring us all to tears - like the Dutch at this years' World Cup.
