Message 3. Perhaps it is because the Forum asks us to put North Cyprus in the title where possible.

Suppose it's because we can only comment on the weather for whichever area we're in! It does vary greatly from one end of the island to the other (we had NO breeze the other night, yet our friends at the other end of the island had to close their windows to stop a searingly hot wind coming in) and is often totally different once you go the other side of the mountains. I can't remember it being so humid last summer but then maybe that's just my memory

SAFFI, where do you find a shower in Cyprus at this time which is delivering cool let alone cold water ? I am wondering whether or not Jock is dehydrated due to filling his cool drinks dispenser with the finest Scottish Whiskey ? To get into the swimming pool seems to be only the difference between poaching or frying !

A 67-YEAR-OLD man from Kokkines in Larnaca was found dead yesterday from suspected heatstroke.

Earlier in the day a 90-year-old woman was hospitalised suffering from heatstroke, doctors said, as the island went through the fourth day of a heatwave, unprecedented in terms of temperature.

The 67-year-old man was found by his wife behind the chicken coop on the family’s property yesterday afternoon. Aradippou police are investigating his death but reports from Larnaca said heatstroke was the likely culprit.

The 90-year-old woman who was admitted to hospital yesterday was one of many who visited the emergency room at Larnaca General Hospital with heat-related symptoms, according to the Director of the Hospital’s Accident and Emergency Department, Dr. Kyriakos Kyriakides.

He said numbers were 50 per cent higher than usual.

Lilli - you would love how one of our dogs has figured out a way to cool down................... every time we open the freezer door he runs over and licks it!!!!! Getting through lots of disinfectant cleaning it afterwards but he seems quite happy!

It's the humidity here in Lapta that's worse than the heat. The cloud hasn't shifted from the mountain this morning. Anyone with asthma would be better staying indoors with a fan running.

wanderer re: Message 12. I read this report yesterday and also today. Your version is today's. Yesterday the report actually said "The 67 year old man was found by his wife behind the chicken coop ...................... Police do not suspect foul play. Honestly!

Great journalism.

Thought you would be back in bed by now Jock ! Message 15 reminds me of 2 horrible years in Gibraltar in the 1960s when the "levant" weather often brought a cloud of humidity stuck to the top of the rock making life sweaty and headaches the norm for most people. Some soldiers even suffered a phobia whereby they could not stop looking at the levant (there was little else to see). It was dubbed "Rock Crazy" and extreme cases were returned to UK via a visit to a "Shrink". All a bit worrying as I now find that I keep looking at the cloud which is all too often stuck above Alsancak and Lapta. I can't afford a shrink but my self diagnoses is that so far I am still capable of rational and lucid thought so it must be true that "A bird may sing with a broken wing but, one can't pluck feathers off a frog" ! How profound is that ? They will soon come to take me away ahaa, ahee, ahaa. Off to the pool, again

Jock1,

They say that the sun shines on the righteous! (nothing about cooking you half to death though)

Bright sunshine and crisp here in the UK. I was out at 7.30 am mowing the lawns.

I think I would rather be too hot than the weather we have forecast for the next few days here in London - I can't believe it's August!

Storm clouds could be brewing for you all out there. Something has to give after so many days of extreme tempws & humidity. Nicosia apparently had storms over the past 36 hours.... Keep going and stick it out! lol
