He saterted vomiting about 2 hours ago, I've made sure he has plenty on water to keep him hydrated but he's vomiting that aswell. Anyone got any what might have caused it? If he's no better in the morning I'm going to take him to a vets.

Thanks for any advice anyone can give

Thanks for the advice. Took him to vets. The poor thing has Parvo virus. The vet, Pertev has him on a drip, antibiotics etc but says Efes only has a 50/50 chance. :-( Poor Efes, he was so poorly he couldn't even be bothered to complain when teh vet shaved his leg and put a drip in.

thanks from Efes for the support ;-) RE msg 6, he hadn't been innoculated yet, he only turned up a few weeks ago and we were trying to decide where to take him for them.

msg 6....all these diseases that animals contract here, are all COMPLETELY avoidable! The drugs are readily available and everyone is encouraged to immunise their pets as soon as they are old enough. Parvo unfortunately is quite rife due to the amount of unwanted and un-inoculated animals.

Poor Efes...Mike you are not to blame for this, any dog taken off the street has a high chance of being infected....so lets just hope you have caught it in time...Pertev is a fab vet, and is heart is definitely on the job....fingers crossed for Efes!

thanks again, will post a msg tomorrow after I have been to see Efes to let you all know how he is responding.

My mums really upset about it and angry with the local that had him for 3 months from new born for not innoculating him. If whoever did have him before does turn up and want him back they will get my foot up their a*(&

Pertev seems excellent, he says we can visit Efes any time apart from Sundays. Efes seemed very calm with him, he was feeling very ropey though. Didn't complain having stuff stuck up his bum, having a patch of leg shaved, having a drip put in. Only time he flinched really was with the last injection Pertev gave him, he did say to Efes it was going to sting though ;-)

I think i know that last injection well! Mr Ted doesn't even register the vet through all shots and odd things stuck in odd places, but that last shot...well...i have never heard a dog scream in all my life, till that last shot...don't worry though, he will soon forget it...you might not though!!

Don't be too hard on the folk that had him first....they most likely didn't know that they should have innoculated him...just be thankful that he is still going strong, and most likely going to make a full recovery!!

Also, if anyone turns up now to claim him..it will be most likely to turn him into a mating dog, as he looks like a pedigree...do not give him away now...they had their chance....he is yours now...i will promise you, as soon as he is neutered...no one will come looking for him!!

Mr Ted sends his condolences on that last shot.....

hehe DD. Wondering whether to get him neutered while he's still in hospital, get all the horrible things out of the way in one go.

By the way, with the last injection he only flinched a bit. Didn't say anything. He's a funny dog normally, if I ask him a question he normally grumbles a reply of some sort in doggy language ;-)

Oh mike hope all goes well I am sure it will. once they are put on the drip for a while you will be quite surprised at the difference next time you see him....Some on here may well remember when I had a swim-a-long last June our very big Lucy long legs was so unwell and we thought she was dying on us, but stright to the vets in the morning and she was on a drip all day.she is such a strong thing we had to stay with her,and she was put on a drip for three days but we were able to bring her home each night, she was very poorly..Honest you will notice a change next time you go.It may take a little while but all will be well..

thanks spider. Touch wood.

Just remembered who Efes reminds me of when he groans his answers to my questions. Remember in the 70's they had gov safety adverts? The cartoon one with Charlie the cat, 'Charlie says..........' he sounds just like the cat hehe

rowan, with ref to my earlier post we were still deciding which vet to use for the jabs. We didn't really want to take him as far as Girne because he gets car sick. Because of recommendations we decided to take him into Girne because he was obviously feeling poorly. Oddly enough he wasn't sick in the car on the way down. I'm sure the locals got p*****d off with my driving though hehe, was going very sedately to try and not upset him stomach any more.

by the way the vet has told me to stop giving him the dry dog food that I have been giving him, he's not happy with it (the vet) Said get the dried stuff from the supermarket instead so I can check what is in it and the use by date.

That's what it's all about!! Pertev will will sort it!! So will most vets here!!

NB: if you take a dog from the streets...the first thing you should do is take it to the vets...get an animal m.o.t...

But only take the said animal if you are prepared to take on the responsibility....

I agree with you DD but I must say I agree with Catalkoykid.

As far as being responsible for a dog, we didn't have any choice with Efes. He wouldn't leave he liked it too much here. God bless, he's a family member now.

No two completly different things. Sandfly bites can lead to Leishmatosis. Parvo should be given to all puppies on the first innoculation and then repeated two weeks later. You have been so lucky that Efe has recovered, he must have great spirit and strength, have seen quite a few puppies over here whose parents have not been innoculated against it and they have had an awlful death. Well done.

Mike,

if your dog is getting car sick, don't feed him before traveling.

But most of all take him out in the car little and often, he will get over it in time.

I know this from experience and mucking out the car many times.

Good luck.

UPDATE: took Efes to Pertev today for his first round of vaccinations. He was very calm and didn't complain at all. Pertev said that he is a really well behaved dog, he knew last weekend he was being helped so was as calm and friendly as possible. Efes loves it at the vets. (Can't say that about many animals). Bought him a nice big juicy bone with a bit of meat on it for being good. Loving it. Don't fancy his doggy breath when we go to bed though He always jumps up on the bed and lies next to me, within a min or 2 gets down on the floor.
