Can anyone tell me which is the cheapest supermarket on the east side of Kyrenia, or is it just a matter of choice?

These days all the supermarkets seem to have offers on. Erdener and Supreme are the best in my opinion. Most offer items at a special price if you spend over 50TL. Tempo is good for Indian/Chinese/Thai spices/supplies but the others are getting better. Hur Deniz is small but does good deals on alcohol and we buy ham there - they also supply fresh fish. Ya Beleş opposite Mardos sell good quality vegetables.

We live out at Ozankoy but not sure where Kyrenia is! Heard it might be a canton of that strange Blackpool like Lapta place. Must be some people over that way as there is a new road heading west but don't know what is at the end of it. Still, its an Island and if you keep turning left you can never get lost.

Hi Waddo,

Love your reply to msg from Hippo, I to love the east much better than the west and we live out in the sticks at Esentepe. Rural, tranquil and beautiful and I only ever venture west of Kyrenia if I absolutely have to but hey! it wouldn't do for us all to be alike. Thanks for the replies on supermarkets so far, I don't know where Hur Deniz is, can you please give me directions? I am not bothered about the alcohol but I do like a nice bit of ham and fresh fish.

I think Erdener is the cheapest but Supreme comes up trumps for their deli counter. I did not know Hur Deniz sold ham...hmmmmmm, pop in there tomorrow me thinks!

What is this drive for cheapness?

If you got run over would you appreciate your husband looking for the cheapest doctor?

Do you wear the cheapest clothes?

Do you drink the cheapest booze/smoke te cheapest fags?

Look for value for money, not cheapness. They are not the same thing.

Hi Vaughan,

I quite agree with you and I don't like cheap food but value for money is what I am after. Neither of us smoke and we don't drink a lot either but my husband being a butler does like quality wine and knows the difference from cheap plonk. I just wanted to know what people thought was the best value for money supermarket. I already buy my vegatables from the Wednesday market or Ya Beles. When you are retired you have to make certain you are getting value for money.

Hi Mike,

Are you thinking of hiring one? The cost depends on how many years service you have, experience and who you have worked for.

East is East and West is West and never the twain shall meet; so the saying goes.

West had it in the past apparently but now the east is buzzing.

Let us hope that the East learns from the West's mistakes!!

Supreme has my vote as THE best supermarket in the East. They are just SUPREME!

What's blue, red, yellow and full of rubbish?

A Lidl carrier-bag!

Vaughan,

Why would I want to pay more for the very same items? I'm not looking for cheap but keen prices for the same item are worth investigating....

There is a Hur Deniz in Karaoglanoglu so I guess you can check there....

I got the impression that this discussion was purely for those who shop in the East, is it not?

Hi NCMan,

I certainly agree with you that East is best, you couldn't pay me to live west. To built up, to noisy and to busy, I like the peace and quiet.

What we should all be looking for is value-for-money at competitively priced stores. This is not the same thing as cheap.

Vaughan,

It can be... logically. A store that sells everything you want of the right quality at the lowest price in the area would de facto be the cheapest.

The stores in the east are no cheaper than those in the west as far as I can see. You have to shop around a bit just like you used to in the UK before the big supermarkets did away with the local shops.
