I'm thinking of bringing over. Red Open Top London Bus for trips and Tours in the Trnc.

Do you think it would attract some business?

Would I be able to take it over to the South for trips?

I think its a great idea, Have you also thought about a hop-on-hop-off ticket that also allows you to use the underground?

They do a tour in the south called 'redbus tours' they go to the border and view points nearby. it's always busy, maybe you should try there tour for ideas, think they have a website called redbus tours you could look up.

Would take my regular visitors and family on it but I think they might get off at the first stop if it includes Cliff Richards singing "Summer Holiday" !

I think it could work. At night the downstairs could be a bar with music and the bus could stop at various points to allow people to dance.

There is also one of these buses here in Southport that advertises childrens' parties and the bus pulls up outside the house and then the kids get on it for their party. Upstairs has no seats but is used for the games and has a slide fitted instead of the stairs so that they can slide down to the bottom deck. The downstairs has tables for the party meal and they eat there and sing to the party person and have the cake there.

One of our grandchildren hired it and it went down well because the kids loved the novelty of it and dancing on the top deck to their favourite music. The parents loved it because their home was a kid free zone with no cleaning up after the party. The electricity comes from the house via a lead to the bus. The bus owner provided the food and balloons etc

I'd check out the cost of importing it, may be exorbitant if the cost of importing a car is anything to go by. I'd check whether they will allow you to import it, there are strict rules re age of cars (must be under 3 years old etc.). The TRNC authorities are not big on encouraging entrepreneurs especially not foreign ones. The other issue is the strength of the sun with an open top bus. You don't see many soft top cars in very hot countries. You could fry your passengers.

Also beware of the electric cables crossing the road..... I know many areas where they are too low for higher vehicles.... even on the Lapta strip.

Seems these bus trips might turn into a fiasco if Public Service Vehicle (PSV) licence required. I now imagine Cliff Richard, sat on a commode, singing Summer Holiday. PSV becomes "Poofter Seated Voyeur." If, as suggested, the bus takes the top of mountain road to avoid low electric cables a commode will be needed for every single passenger. Perhaps a "steering" committee should be formed to come up with a cunning plan to avoid these pitfalls. Wish I was a "fluff" and could afford a taxi !

In spite of the mirth I think it could work well too ! Needs a good business plan as most of us qualify for a pensioner's Free Bus Pass.

What a great Idea, I held a PSV (public Service Vehivcle) license from the UK. TRNC also have various licenses. To use the UK one here, no, you must hold a work Permit and TRNC License, if over 60 you must also now have a medical every year just like the UK. If you brinnimng it over I am very interseted as I worked for London Transport all my working life. Good Luck.

Hi Woodspeckle

Yes we do have the open top buses here in Southport but to be honest they are not doing very well and I doubt it being a viable business. They charge £8 per person and you can hop on and off at various stops but to be honest I would not pay £16 for two of us to ride around Southport!!!!!!!!!

Been on them in Dubai and it is hot over there and so it did not seem to bother the passengers much. As long as your sun hat is tied on or it may go off in the breeze.
