I am thinking of taking my wife on a short break 2-3 days to Turkey,not 5* something more traditional , maybe a family run B&B with easey access to places of interest, and not too commercialised.

this would be our first trip to Turkey and would appreciate any advice.

Went to HATAY last year to have my wifes teeth fixed.What a funtastic place/people.

Went there again this year for shopping and WILL go there again,in fact may well be moving there once kids are grown and gone.

Here is a clue of what you'll get to see,

For a short break I would suggest Selcuk, the Town of Ephesus. Plenty of cheap, clean Pensions for about £25-30 B&B, per night for two. Fly to Izmir and if you get your timings right the slow train from the airport takes you into the Town centre with great country views. Plenty of English speaking Turks with bar/restaurant prices marginally less than TRNC and a number of Historical sites to see, easily accomplished within 3 days. Sirince is well worth a visit, just a short bus ride away though some mad people walk it! Do some Google research.

Above all everyone,I've not heart one good thing about Hatay people.(most of labourers are from Hatay in Cyprus)

But when you get there it is a completly different story.

When we went there last year,we went to a town called KIRIKHAN,no hotel,taxi driver took us to his home as guests.Took us back to town again following day from their village and to main town after.Had to nearly fight to put 100 tl in his pocket.

What a wonderfull people.It reminds me of old Cyprus people.

yorgozlu .. I'll second everything to have said about Hatay ,, Went to a Turkish wedding there in April ..

Stayed in Antakya for 3 nights at the Narin Hotel ..

Woodspeckie

Hatay is the nearest airport in Turkey to Cyprus .. Very close to Syria ..

Antakya the capital ia a mini Istanbul .. We enjoyed every minute

The last time we went (few weeks ago),I paid 221 tl return for both of us.

The next trip will include Gaziantep and Kahramanmaras as well.Would love to do it on my bike but my beautiful wife is too scared these days to sit behind me.I dont know why......

Have to agree with message 12 Istanbul is fantastaic. Very clean, the people really friendly, loads of historical places of interest. Stay in the old town, wide variety of reasonably priced hotels.

msg 16;

No,you werent.But,other then the fact that there arent many top notch hotels there are alot of places that are still unspoilt and a joy to see them exist.

We stay in a hotel called SARAY HOTEL when we go over which also needs renovating,no air-con either.But we dont go there to sit in a hotel,we go there to see places we havent been yet.As for people live there,I am actualy speechless for their decency.

msg 15;

Istanbul is a fantastic place,however,Turkey or in fact world is a big place and I try to see as much as possible in little life we get.

ps.Old Cypriots even today dont know that london is just the capital of England.As far as thier concerned I come from London.

Not Hatay but Turkey in general look at this link for some ideas for itineraries (our prices are good for professional tours but you might not want a guide) http://www.flightholiday.co.uk/Short_Tours_Turkey.php
