We got a message thru our gates today saying that the council will be holding Echinococcus screening (tapeworms) for dogs.

Anyone know if this is compulsory or voluntary? Do they do it every year?

Yes, they do it every year. Not sure if it`a compulsory. However, I would check with Pertev first being as he`s been poorly recently and had other medication. M

thanks. Will be seeing Pertev some time in next few days so will ask. 12tl for the screening isn't bad at all.

Mike I think its some kind of worming, so if Pertev has already wormed him he might get a bad reaction.

They did the same last year. As well as worming tablets (which Pertev said throw away) they also want to inject, refuse this as they use the same dirty needles on every dog and if you go to the vet your dog already has been vaccinated. You also get a dog licence for your dog and this is compulsory in Lapta area. Just take your vet books for your dogs with you.

If Pertev says your dog is covered already and should not be given any additional treatment by Lapta Belediye ask him for a quick note written in Turkish to show them along with your dogs log-book showing the jabs and worming regime already undertaken.

Then please post it on here (in Turkish) so others can do the same.

Groucho they wont care, i took the dogs and the books lasy year. they gave me a tablet for each of them and charged me 22tl per dog. I tried to explain that my vet worms them not interested, its just another money making exercise. I have to say though i was surprise at how many turkish cypriot pet owners were also on the beach in the heat with thier pets x
