The new bypass (driving in the left lane towards Alsancak) has already several huge and deep holes in the 'new' tarmac.

Hans,

What's that got to do with TRNC anyway?

That was a joke.

It may not have been very funny.

It may not have been funny at all.

But - it was all my own work, and I didn't copy and paste it from the Internet.

- And it WAS actually about the TRNC (opening question notwithstanding )

Are you happy now?

My FOOT you are! (did I get that right this time?)

Keith mate, I've either lost the plot or your post was a tad confusing. ;-)

Used it at least 4 times in the last week. Seen no potholes. An almost perfect road. All it needs is palm trees and grass and that will bring it to perfection.

Dont forget, it was the ministry of transport of the republic of turkey that paid/financed the new road so they are MUCH less likely to cut corners than if it was the trnc financing it!

Nice idea about the grass and palm trees but pigs might fly ;-) Can only see that happening though if the public chipped in to buy the them. I wouldn't trust the gov to keep them watered though.

I hope I'm wrong.

Hole nearside lane (150 metres?), just before GAU junction travelling west if a motorcycle hit this square on would cause serious damage in my opinion.

RE msg 10, Kary 44: (...) Hole mearside lane etc. (...)

=> You're right. People who didn't spot this were possibly speeding in the lane at the right.

RE msg 12, scootex: (...) and possibly overtaking traffic that was in the left hand lane (...)

=> How can you overtake cars in the left lane when they are driving 75 kms/hour where you are supposed to drive 75 kms/hour..?! P.S. Next time you put on your safety helmet or wish the TRNC doctors much luck when an ambulance brings you in into the State Hospital.

there is a huge hole in the "motorway" capable of bursting a bald tyre if you didn't see it because you were on your mobile while turning to argue with your mother-in-law in the back seat

Regardless of potholes, this road does seem to be reducing the cat population. I have counted 6 dead so far - but no dogs yet.

I did watch several cars trying very hard to avoid a chameleon that was walking across - I hope it made it.

cyprusairsoft, b.......r, I thought that big rock was a Cypriot "Keep Left Bollard" and the hard shoulder is pretty rough (and deep !) terrain.

Well, you're certainly not wrong there!

I've heard of 'rose coloured specs' but that really must take the biscuit

Do you think Vaughan was escorted by a large dog - and I don't mean jillyjugs, either

Jeannie,

Maybe he had his 'Beer Goggles' on...

Yep!

Be VERY careful at any of the junctions though - people who have been trundling up and down the little village roads don't seem to have adapted to the idea that there are these metal boxes whizzing past at umpteen kilometres per hour...

And the Roundabout at the GAU junction is a nightmare - it's just not big enough for anyone to take it seriously, there have been loads of crashes there already - it needs to be twice the size and/or have traffic lights on it.

I've no doubt that they'll be messing about with bits of the bypass for the forseeable future - and of course they are extending the dual carriageway now - reportedly heading for Lapta - Joy!

What have they done at the Zeytinlik junction , last time I was over there was a distinct lack of tarmac on the side roads up to the bypass . It was suggested that they were still deciding if they were putting in a roundabout or leaving the lights , it was a nightmare trying to pull onto the bypass from loose gravel ?

Zeytin,

didn't you know that it's mandatory to do a 4 x wheel spin when pulling out of any junction in the TRNC?

Followed by a 'speed wobble' as you fight to gain control of the vehicle - this last is designed to cause their 'past life' to flash before the eyes of any pedestrians / motorists in the vicinity!

To be serious for a moment - Sorry, NO! - I don't know what they've done there, but judging from the past few months, it will be different next week!
