Has anyone any recomendations, (good or bad) regarding getting your building and contents insured, what types of cover can you get. and who supplies it.

Is it much the same as in the uk.

Thanks.

I have just taken out insurance with Turk Bankasi ,Karaoglanoglu Branch. Next door to the "COD BABA".

Linda ROY the Customer rep. was a good help.

The cover is like UK cover and includes building, contents,; insured against , theft, damage, civil liability, all acts of nature you could think of, flood, fire, internal water damage, injury on the the property, motor vehilcles colliding with the property ect ect.

Cost £184 for 1 year cover.

Got to be Steve Dickinson. Just arrived back late last night to find water had leaked down chimney and Steve is straight on it with his builder coming round tomorrow.

Halil Atakan - tel: 0533-8650198. I have used Halil for all of my insurance for years and he is great. Very comprehensive cover on all of his household policies - mostly through major Turkish insurance companies. He is also a really nice guy, will come to you and, if you have a claim, will be round immediately to sort everything out. Have recommended him to loads of people over the years and never heard a bad word about him.

My premium went up by 35% recently from Creditwest. Same cover as last year, never made a claim. I asked why the huge increase and was met with the Cyprus shrug, and told 'its gone up'.

Hi Mike41.

I have just had a quote from copeland insurance, however I want them to 100% confirm they will indeed cover the Turkish republic of north Cyprus, as apposed to the south side.

Did you insure with them?

mess 14:

mess 28 - James - you are making yourself look like a bitter and twisted old fool, digging up old "insurance" pots trying to slag off creditwest...

I owned an insurance brokerage in the uk for 30 years and i would say, the most comprehensive policy i saw whilst living i the trnc was from CreditWest and the people who work there speak very good english and understand the product well (Naci in Kangerangaloo branch and Nesrin in Karakum branch spring to mind).........

Also CreditWwest have proper re-insurance, underwritten by a huge global insurer - meaning if the island is hit by huge earthquakes, you stand more chance of getting your claim paid.....

all of my insurance policies were with Creditwest - read into that what you will.........

if you have a genuine gripe - may i suggest you go to their head office in lefkosia and speak to "creditwest rep"

We are planning to move over to Cyprus in the next couple of months and want to bring our own car.

Has anyone else done this and if so what is the approx cost in import tax.

Does it depend on the size/year of the vehicle?

Just had an insurance claim for the extensive rain fall that damaged our pool in January this year, we can only say that Steve Dickinson was really just great.

His insurance company is in Lapta .... Very competitive rates too.

James - msg 13

Now insured with Copelands for Bldgs & Contents @ £250. Also tested the 24hr claims line via a dummy run through claims agents in Manchester - very efficient.

£250 seems quite expensive compared to uk for the sort of cover especially given the low cost of rebuilding out here, what excess do you have on the policy?

Would also be quite useful as a comparison to declare the approx values you have stated to get this quote.

Because the Copeland policy is for many parts of Europe including the TRNC the minimum cover they offer for rebuild is £80,000#. They have Lloyds underwriters which is part of the benefit of insuring with a UK company.

The buildings cover they provide normally includes, theft, fire, flood, burst pipes, storm, subsidence, landslip, heave, earthquake etc.

As agents IAH know that Copeland insure Buildings and Contents* and your Liability to the Public is automatically covered. Property can be left unoccupied for periods. There is an extension available relating to metered water. Policy excess starts at £50 (going upward for different cover).

# Rebuild is like for like so if your rebuild should cost £15k that is what you would receive (less any excess) * Contents cover is limited.

Howard Msg 25 - If you want their KeyFacts and a quotation please email me with details and we will happily arrange it for you

The value of possessions in your home has likely increased , many people do not have adequate home contents insurance to cover the cost of replacing items lost due to fire.
