I have just seen on another Cyprus Forum that there has been a forest fire in Catalkoy.

Anyone know if it is now under control? Any casualties or damage to property?

Why didn't you ask for an update on the board that you read the report on ?

It is under control from what i read on the "other " board.

This was reported on the BRT.

The fire brigade, police, civil defense organization, army units and the public all joined forces to try and put out the fire.

Intense efforts were made to stop the fire from spreading to other areas.

The Director of the Fire Department Kaner Koksal told the BRT news room that the fire which broke out on the top western side of the Catalkoy Mountain, was difficult to reach as it was situated in rough mountainous terrain.

The fire department has managed to prevent the fire from spreading to the south of the mountain.

Helicopters were forced to intervene to stop the fire from spreading to other areas.

The fire has been brought under control.

Hye

The fire services were still up there last night at 11pm and we could see more making their way up.. It is directly behind our place but we are low down. It started yesterday afternoon about 2. At one point the flames were very high in several places. It looks like lots of damage over quite a large area.

This morning smoke has started again and the helicopter has been back/forth a few times with water - fingers crossed they will be able to douse it well today.

I just heard on BRT that three men have been arrested for a fire that broke out in the Bogaz (Iskele) region and that the British base at Dhekelia helped put the fire out. is this a confusion with the catalkoy fire or are they all related?

why bother looking at other boards if you don't want to be a member? If you read it and want to reply to it then why not join? I sit here shaking my head at some peoples postings.

I like many others have looked and posted on many of the Cyprus Boards. Occasionally they are interesting but most of the time I find that the members are just too confrontational and down right rude with anyone that has purchased property in the TRNC. They offer slanging matches rather than debates or discussion.

So shake your head all you like dozza, it is surely my choice?

Hi Wyn,

can't believe the bloody arrogance of some people! Never mind won't be long before we are over there taking in that sun. Are you taking across your furniture or buying whilst out there?

Its also the time limit! I am guilty of spending far too much time on these forums as it is.

Hi Bradus,

Some funny postings around now a days!

Furniture.......problem really. We bought a substantial package 12 months ago from Fiskos.

Bedding, beds, dressing tables etc. and that is great. Still need quality 3 piece suite. TFT

television. Teak table and 10 chair for outdoors and all the usual household wares. Trying

to find balance over whether to import (container, insurance) or if I can buy quality more

cheaply in TRNC. Really cant decide. Any suggestions?

In any event hope you enjoy your stay. All the best for your 25th. Does hubby realise that

he could have strangled you twice and still be out by now!( Thats what I tell The Lady Wyn

41 years this year Oouch!)( Must be love, I suppose!)

ALL ADVICE RE FURNITURE GREATLY APPREICIATED. I HAVE ASKED BEFORE.

Regards,

wyn.

Agree Hattikins,

Just because you don't participate does not mean that you do not learn from them.

Wyn,

my suggestion would be to get the essentials and have a good look round to see if what is for sale meets your needs. I found buying in TRNC expensive in comparison to home. However as we use it only as a holiday home, a less expensive option than paying for goods to be transported over to North Cyprus. I feel that Olguns have a better selection of good quality suites than most of the other stores. Ronnies have the best tilting sun umbrellas as they offer so many different sizes and colours for much less than other retailers.

Amazed that you need 10 patio chairs.......obviously Mrs Wyn is going to be doing lots of entertaining? Visit stores out of Girne as you may find more choice and better value.

Will do our best to get over to the Ship and meet you this September.

Bradus,

Hope you can make The Ship. It would be nice to meet. We arrive 24/9. Hoping to lay out the garden this trip!

I tried to find the items we required, through the board, but I could not find websites with

photographs that interested us. ANY NAMES? It would be really helpful.

As for 10 chairs, we hope maybe to rent a little, and it sleeps 8 (allow for visitors) or the real reason, we were going to use them as Ducking Stools for builders and Estate Agents!

Take care and stay cool!

Hi, just a quick comment. I live out here, love every moment, or nearly, and enjoy reading this forum, but why does there have to be some smart alec who has to have a go when some one puts a posting on, really spoils

the forum.

norma jean.....

Good to hear you are enjoying lfe in the TRNC....same here....love it.

Ok, it's not all perfect but where is?

Agree there are one or two people who will always have a negative impact on this board but all in all its a brilliant board and 99% of the members participate in the hope of sharing positive views, engage in meaningful dialogue, make new friends and join in the friendly banter along the way.

Why people have to have a go at someone's spelling for example is beyond me....what makes them think they are perfect?...think a "few" people need to get a life.

Enjoy your evening.

Puppylover,

thanks for that, in the trnc, you can only have a good evening, sunsets to die for.

We have everything we could have ever longed for.

We must learn to enjoy.
