As long as you have got an MOT certificate that's in date, and an emissions certificate that's less than 3 years old, then you can to straight to the tax office - they'll be happy.

If your MOT needs renewing, then you need to get the emissions test done first (same day! - so start EARLY...) - and then go to the MOT place, & then to the tax office.

If in doubt, give me a ring or pop round.

When we taxed the car in April, they did not want to see the Emissions test cert. anyway. The MOT cert. was offered & they didn't bother to look at that either.

It is deffo only needed for the MOT now. They got themselves (& us) really confused when the emissions cert. was first introduced though.

Jackie,

The MOT test is done at the Police Garage. If I said that it was rudimentary, I would be over-egging the pudding

I don't think that your emissions can be more than 3 years old, 'cos they've not been doing them for that long! - in any event, just staple it to the back of the MOT certificate when you go for your car tax. I think that they just take it for granted that if you've got an MOT, then you've got everything that goes with it - and they've changed the goalposts about 3 or 4 times! I realise that you may have a morbid fear of 'innocently' being without the right documents if stopped, but I believe that as it's now up to the MOT tester to determine whether your emissions documents are ok, then if you've got MOT, Tax disc, Insurance and a licence, you'll be OK - in my opinion.

You'll also be doing better than 50% of the locals

If in doubt - ask a policeman! - better still ask 3, - and get 3 different answers

They're only PEOPLE don't forget!

And the bosses are idiots and don't tell them anything - situation normal there, then

You can't really blame them for making it up as they go along... Can you?
