I am by nature rather slim, and (please don't hate me) and find it extremely difficult to gain weight...

But now that it's super hot...i am completely off eating...i just can't summon up an appetite, and my issue is, i am now dropping weight, and it seems, rather noticeably. My face is looking rather gaunt, and a few bones are poking through...my average daily intake, is half a sandwich at lunchtime, and some toast at night....even this is difficult to eat....

I was wondering if one can buy those power powder drinks that weight lifters drink to gain weight? Or alternatively, any super simple recipes that are light to eat, but are crammed full of calories. I don't mean cakes and pies, as i would like to stay relatively healthy...but easy pasta dishes maybe? I am incredibly tired when i get home, so anything quick to make would be really helpful.

This is a serious question, and i would appreciate serious answers.

Thank you in advance.

The pharmacy in the main road opposite the Catalkoy turning has all sorts of power drinks and supplements like the weight lifters use.

You need to take medical advice. You could have an underlying problem.

No 1...i really don't think i have an underlying problem at all...i really do attribute it to being out in the sun all day...you must know what it's like, when you're too hot, you've no appetite...

honestie, thanks hun....next time i go past i will stop by and have a word.

Surely i am not the only one with this problem....doesn't anyone else go off food when it's hot?? I swear sometimes i feel i could go weeks without eating, with only weight loss being the drawback...

Maybe there is a call for a weight-loss anonymous club...?

DD. weight loss, a half of sandwich during the day and a bit of toast in the evening is really not down to the heat. We all get affected by the heat but I bet there's not many that it affects to your extreme. Do yourself a favour and go and have a chat with a doctor - honestly. It may be just a vitamin deficiency.

DD - no, you're not the only one with this problem. I don't eat very much in the heat either, although I can usually manage a bit more than half a sandwich and some toast in a day

I'm too old to lose weight - I'm not over-large to start with - and, like you, if I lose weight, it goes from all the wrong places, i.e. my face looks incredibly gaunt. Not a good look for someone of my age.

Even if we have a period of hot weather in this country (not often, I know) I lose my appetite and I find that when we're on holiday, the longer I'm there, the less I eat. I would have a go at what Simbas recommends. My Mum was on 'Ensure' when she was ill, in an effort to build up her strength. I'm sure that when the weather cools down, your appetite to go back to normal.

Why not try smoothies? They can be very nourishing but easy to drink. I put cottage cheese in mine and you could add full fat yoghurt. There are loads of combinations but make sure you have some protein.

DD if somebody was to cook for you would you be more inclined to eat? If the answer is yes then it may be that you are just too tired to be bothered. When it is hot like this I make up a big salad and keep it covered with cling film in the fridge. It lasts for about 3 days without deteriorating. I cook a chicken and this lasts also for 3 meals (there are 2 of us) and then roast a big batch of vegetables that can be eaten hot or cold. If I know I have got something tasty that will take minutes to prepare then I am more inclined to eat.

Well I am obvisously different because excess heat does not affect my appetite and I have increased in weight this summer.

Liz...thank you everso much....must check on the wallet first

Joandjelly...you have a rather good point there...i expect i would eat if it was made for me, as i am definitely way too tired to spend time cooking when i get home...it's all i can do to boil up the dogs dinner...and then i have to wait ages for it to be cool enough for them to eat...Anyway...i have started roasting baby chickens, and most nights i boil up a spud and mash it and pour over some gravy...but the amount i am able to put down wouldn't fill a sparrow....and by day 4 i give it to my dogs....but honestly, there's only so much chicken and mash one can eat....and i hate vegies (well the sort that need cooking anyway)

I've been googling simple pasta dishes...but what with the heat and the lack of food...it all adds up to being too incredibly tired to cook...it seems this is the proverbial catch 22...

I'm only 41, and already i'm needing meals-on-wheels!!

Hi ya,

Daisy, firstly I'd see a doctor, before looking at any suppl/diets. below is a basic guide and can be used as long as the DR has given you the all clear.

First thing I'd ask is are are you currently drinking enough water?

Drink at least drink eight 8-ounce glasses a day.

One thing we use to say when I use to work out was, "eat breakfast like a king and dinner like a peasant". Breakfast should be large and each meal after this becoming smaller and smaller.

Eat a nutrient dense meal every 2-3 hours

Eat 5-6 smaller meals throughout the day

Try fill your diet with nutrient dense foods.

Lean Protein Sources (chicken breast, turkey breast, fish, egg whites)

Healthy Starchy Carbohydrates (brown rice, sweet potatoes, oatmeal)

Lean Fibrous Veggies (broccoli, mushrooms, )

Fiber Packed Fruit (apples, berries, oranges, grapes)

Healthy Fats (avocados, walnuts, olive oil)

If you like I can give you an example menu

Goonerboy...an example menu would be super! However can i please say that i wont eat...brown rice, oatmeal, broccoli (or any green veg) and avocados.

And the meals must be made swiftly, as i am home and awake for approximately an hour and a half before i just want to fall into bed.

As for water, i drink loads! I work outside all day, and am constantly drinking water...I carry a small bottle with me all day, and am constantly refreshing it from the water cooler...so, water is not the problem.

But eating a large breakfast is simply not possible...i can not bear to eat after waking up, never have done...the most i can manage in the morning is a cup of coffee....but even that has stopped now as it is too hot and sends my temperature roaring!

You are another person who suggests i go to see a doctor first...trouble is, i don't feel ill...and what do i say...'hi doc...it's really hot and i'm off my food'....isn't this normal....? All i want to do is stop losing weight....

DD. You don't have to feel ill to have something wrong with you. Your symptoms of weight loss and no appetite indicates something may be not quite right.

DD. If you really cannot face food early in the morning, make yourself up a protein drink the night before (takes 2 mins),pop it in the fridge and drink for your breakfast.

My typical drink would be with 1.5% fat milk (the red mera pack),2 scoops of whey protein (any chemist) and a banana as well. Blend the lot and enjoy !!!

Best place to buy the protein powder if over the mountains at the new Erulku supermarket, way cheaper than chemists or anywhere this side.

If you want some,I could get some for you on my next trip over ??? (i live in Arapkoy)

daisy dukes, Dried figs, dried dates, dried apricots, cashew nuts and fresh orange juice are all packed with carbohydrates and calories and small to eat but agree with some of the comments above about having a check up as soon as possible. Takecare.
