The majority of moles are HARMLESS lesions. However if the mole shows change in colour or size or becomes symptomatic (itch) or indeed changes shape, they should be removed and sent to the labs for histology reporting, to determine if malignant changes have taken place.

The other thing to watch for are rodent ulcers (basal cell carcinoma). These generally appear on sun exposed areas of the skin and present as small waxy nodules with rolled pearly border. As it grows it starts to ulcerate and crust over. This is the most common skin cancer, and can be treated. So don't ignore if you have suspect you have a lesion. They are most common between the hairline and upper lip. Seek medical advise as if neglected it can lead to loss of all or part of a nose, lip or ear.

Preventative measures always best so avoid going out at the hottest part of the day and if you do have to, wear a high protection SP30 or above sun block.

Stay safe

Got one! (basal cell carcinoma) Had it for two years now and just this month been to see the Dr! Funny thing is that it appeared underneath the side frame of my spectacles and I thought it was an alergic reaction to the new frames. Turns out that it was not an alergy after all and despite all the creams and potions I applied (along with scratching at it because I am a bloke and we do that!) it just got worse.

In the end went to see the dermatoligist and for 4 minutes and 70TL I was told what it was. Same afternoon met with the plastic surgeon and on the 13th of Sept (for 350TL) he is going to remove it. Add the cost of 180TL for the histology report and it all comes to grand total of 600TL, not counting the money already spent on potions!

So, if you think you have one go and get it checked out TODAY - wish I had but I have learnt from this.

Total confidence in the guy! He has even promised me that if he has to move my ear further forward to cover the hole left, that he will move the other one for free - lol.

He also told me that it would not hurt him a bit - he has a good sence of humour and excellent English as well.

Bringing this back to the top as it is important to look out for this especially just now in summer with high temperatures.

Hello nurse can you recommend where to have moles removed, not ones that I am concerned about but like to get rid of.

Can I echo Chris' warning. I had a mole under my knee (in crease) it turned bubbly like a piece of a blackberry and when scratched (mistake) it wept blackish watery stuff. Was a malignant melanoma and I ended up with a saucer shaped hole on the side of my knee and a graft taken from other leg - not fun! the docs would rather you went along with any old mole, better for them to say no, than yes!! the hole has filled up a bit overtime, but I know its there!

Waddo MSG2:

My Wife had a mole removed last Friday here in the UK, she has been told that it will take 3 weeks to get the results back and then if required a course of treatment will be arranged so I am mightily impressed with the speed you were treated. Well worth the money, god knows how much private treatment will cost here in the UK but if its required she will have it. I'm not sodding about with her Life waiting on UK hospital appointments.

I had one removed a coupe of years ago, on my top lip......I was sure I would be scarred for life but thanks to a brilliant plastic surgeon and Bio oil(which the surgeon recommended), you cant see any scar at all.......

shrimp, I used to have a couple of warts on my arm. I got a bit sick of them so I cut them off myself with my swiss army knife (I sterilised my knife first), cauterised the wound and put a plaster over. A few weeks later you wouldn't have known I had them.

I dug the roots of the warts out at the same time. (They did have roots on them, at least it looked like they had after I stopped the bleeding )

I had a bit of dutch courage before doing it by the way.

Everyone else it is NOT a good idea to try and do the LaptaMike method seak help from a professional.

LaptaMike are you aware that teenagers and children read this forum? Maybe not a good idea to share your DIY surgery.
