what a great night at sempati last night the hotel had the event well organized plenty of staff on the bar and the food was good and well priced.the standard of entrants gets better every year but they need some younger judges who know a little bit of modern music .lady gaga was the best by far and had the audience on their feet applauding but didnt even get in the final six!!!the judges picked katherine jenkins who was very good then dean martin who had a good voice but sounded nothing like and then pink who was very good but lady gaga out performed them all so organisers ditch the dinosaurs and get some younger judges !!!

I agree with message 1, was a good night good fun but gaga was rocking !!! Rhianna too !! she didn't get into the 1st 6 either , but its not really important who wins as long as they get up and have a good time. It would be nice to get up to date though.

Wonderful evening - congratulations Pete and Sandra for putting on such a terrific show, the contestants were brilliant and seemed to enjoy their moments of fame. A great setting, Sempati staff did a fantastic job. I agree Lady Gaga was a crowd pleaser (well done Pat!) but Katherine Jenkins and Dean Martin were worthy winners, everyone has their choice but it was great fun. Congratulations to everyone who attended in raising a terrific amount of money for the Cancer Charity - the raffle prizes were top class.

IMHO I thought lady GaGa looked like a drag artist - I honestly don't mean to be disrespectful here. LGs performance was quite aminated and entertaining though she did not sound like LG. Given that she came on late into the show, plenty of beer having been drunk by then, is it really much surprise the audience were "up for it".

I felt sorry for the first half acts having to perform to a sober crowd.

BTW, Lady GaGa born 1986, Katherine Jenkins born 1980 - both contemporary artistes.

Agreed, a good show, well attended. I hope after the takings are totted up the NCCCT charity is well rewarded.

Gaga for me too. She put so much effort into it and really delivered. I agree Katherine Jenkins has a beautiful voice, but can someone tell me who she was supposed to be singing as.

Forgot to say. It`s back to the first year. The one who got the most ovation didn`t get anywhere. Next time perhaps it would be better to forget about judges and rely on the audience.

Msg 10 I think you will find that Hannah (I think that was her name) was the singer performing as Katherine Jenkins, just as Pat was performing as Lady Gaga!

Oooh how difficult it is to please all the people all the time! Surely the whole point of having judges is that the decision is not made based on how many mates one has in the audience or, as the evening does on, how much alcohol has been consumed! I happen to know that at least one of the 'donosaur' judges did a lot of research into the artistes being represented and their songs and to rely on an audience some of whom have no idea who Katherine Jenkins is seems a bit unreliable.

'Show business' is hard and not always 'fair' as we see it, and I speak from experience, but it is meant to be a fun evening and it takes a lot of bottle to get up there and do your stuff so congratulations to them all and well done to the winners.

I am mallards gradaughter who has just recently turned 16. From the age of 2 i ave performed, danced, sang and acted and am now going onto study it at college.

I know everyone has their own opinions about the performance last night but i tyhink it was a total DISGRACE. Apart from the few individuas who performed: Katherine Jenkins, Dean Martin, Mariah Carey and John Lennon; everyone else should be ashamed of themselves!

The people who encourage these performers like 'Lady Gaga' and 'Pink' - (who did NOT deserve 3rd place in my opinion) - should also be thinking to themselves what a digrace they are.

To top it all off, was Lady Gaga a man ? because "she" certainly sounded like it!!!

Mallard's Grandaughter--I hope that when you continue your studies basic English is on the curriculum. I counted at least 8 spelling and grammar errors in your post. By the way what is a "gradaughter"?

msg 18 - totally agree. mallards grandaughter - there is nothing discraceful about supporting any act at this event, no matter what the standard. And why should any act be ashamed of what they do on stage?! This Island needs events like these, time and effort was given by the organisers, participants and judges alike and i applaud that. The key word or point you are missing is FUN! It has never been billed as a professional contest. Please live life a little more before being, in my opinion, quite rude about certain performers. I look forward to seeing YOU sing on stage next year if you feel you can do better than this years stars! One day you may learn the phrase - it is not the winning but the taking part that counts.

A very well organised event by Pete and Sandra with a couple of entertaining acts. Not including the Frank Sinatra who was drunk out of his skin what an insult.

I believe there was only 1 winner and that was Katherine Jenkins what a beautiful voice.

Hotel owners took the opportunity to stuff the captive audience with increased prices above their normal price structure and as a local we will not be going back ever again on principle

A big thank you everyone we had a thoroughly fantastic night. To all our friends who gave their time on the day and previous to the event and to The Sempati Hotel who did brilliantly and kept food and drink prices very good and affordable.

All the acts were brilliant and the decisions were left entirely to the judges ( dont think Mel who is in her youth would appreciate being called a dinosaur though). Thanks to them as well.

I am told that the charity raised around £1300 lira which was fantastic.

Well done to Pete and Sandra,

I took part in very first show at Simena in 2008 and was first on!

Some comments here are ridiculous, its a fun show are you trying to kill it!

Its a fun afternoon and anyone who takes part deserves every credit wether god, bad, drunk, sober its taking part after all without them you would not have a show.

I was used to performing my Gene Vincent number in front of about max 50-70 people, at the Sempati there was about 300+ so give credit to anyone who gets up as singing to so many people was a shock to me, and I never won boohoo !!!

Pete,

Don't let them get to you.

You and Sandra must have worked so hard to organise a fabulous enjoyable evening with charity benefitting handsomely.

The same old backstabbers crawled out of the woodwork as they did last year.

It must make you wonder why you bother!

Mallard`s so called grandaughter. I think if your grandfather is 80 you will be a little more than 16.

However, if you are only 16, you have certainly learned the art of being offensive.

The person you refer to as maybe being a man happens to be a very good friend of mine, who had the guts and determination to get up there and have a go. It`s not easy to put yourself in front of hundreds of people when you have never done it before. I can assure you she is not a man and a lot of people thought

she did very well to portray Ga Ga the way she did. Well done Pat. Everybody must agree that it was a very entertaining afternoon/evening and well done so everyone who took part. To organise something like this is a difficult task. We look forward to seeing YOU up there next year, if Pete and Sandra have the inclination to do it again after all the flack.

I was at the Sempati for the competition and thought the standard was very high. The place was packed and all the contestants were nervous so well done to those who actually had the guts to get up and perform in front of that crowd - especially those on in the first half. Although strange that not many of the first half people made it through to the final even though a few of them were heads above some of them that did - such is life!!

Katherine Jenkins is lead singer of Evanesence, lovely voice, sang my favourite song by them but I didnt understand a word she was singing!

Mallards Granddaughter - my advise to you is to forget about going to school to learn performing, seems you're already experienced in attention seeking, try the school of life and learn manners, values, consideration and respect instead with a bit of humility thrown in for extra credit!

Well done to the contestants and the organisers for such a great evening.

At sixteen we ALL knew we knew everything (but I doubt were so vehement and downright nasty) but now pushing up the 60s ladder I know I didn't know it all. I think this "16 year old granddaughter of Mallard" should be big enough to apologise but I am not holding my breath. I reiterate - CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL CONCERNED, it was a most enjoyable evening and been browsing the photos on facebook which are great. As msg 36 says it was rather strange that I think it was only one act from the first half got through to the final six when there were at least three who were excellent - but I was not a judge! Well done Sandra and Pete.

Msg 42 - Ah, sounds like you were looking at photos of the event uploaded to personal FaceBook account(s), not to an event profile.

After reading msg 40 I searched FaceBook for "hotel sempati", got a result but no mention of stars in their eyes. I will search "stars in their eyes trnc", see what, if anything, that brings up.

Cheers
