Hi Bewitched,

When you say you are new here do you mean new to this forum or new to North Cyprus?

It's just that you list your location as Girne as though you have already decided where to live!

Anyway....both sides of NC have their relative merits, but having sampled both I would suggest that Girne and the surrounding areas, both east and west, have much more to offer.

Hi, im new to NC... Ive yet to make the move permanently..ive only visited a few times, and its always difficult to get the true feel of a place when ur only staying a few nights! I was advised by a friend that for my line of work id prob do better in Girne. It was nice...there just didnt seem much to do...but then i probably wasnt looking in the right places!

Timbuktu is calm and serene at the moment!

I hate to be the one to say this..but if you are looking for a place that has lots of things to do, then i'm afraid North Cyprus really isn't the place...unless you like to be drunk all the time....apart from going to the latest opening party or getting burnt on the beach...there really isn't much else to do...

Oh! andrew4232, I think you will find all the big drinkers are over in the west and the easteners only drink in moderation.

Hi japeal, I prefer village life...close enough to the town for when u fancy a night out or something different. Someone mentioned Lapta to me before as being little england.. The reason i wanted to be somewhere with quite a few x pats is i know in a lot of countries the locals prefer to have things done by other locals, whereas x pats prefer to have someone who is british trained and qualified. So far no one has mentioned Famagusta... Are most of the x pats Girne way then? Looks like im going to have to come over soon for another look round!

Hi Bewitched,

Take a look at Esentepe, it is perfect if you like village life. Some shops, some bars, some restaurants, some ex pats but plenty of locals and quiet, peaceful and stunningly beautiful. Famagusta old city is nice but unfortunately the landscape down that coastline is flat and barren whereas the north is forests and mountains. lush & green.

Thanx everyone for all the info...Ill def be checking out Lapta, Tatlisu and Esentepe. I take it there's beauty salons in one of those areas who might be interested to start offering semi permanent makeup and the like? As for the night life and entertainment...im sure there must be something to do!
