If it started raining every day & got cold (I know it can in the winter but I mean now - like it does in UK) Love putting shorts & vest on every day WITHOUT having to look out the window first! Maggie

No-one seems to be biting Doyen. For us personally this situation has already arisen ,and was based on the TRNC governments covert decision to stop issuing PTP to foreigners on Pre-74 Turkish Title property. We cut our losses and sold up to a TC. Without deeds in our name we would never have felt secure in the TRNC. For other posters though the tipping point may be if Efes goes up to 10L a pint ,or if Lemar stop stocking pork pies !

nothing I can think of apart from even more red tape. Got a lovely villa with a lovely view, a lovely dog (Efes), lovely neighbours. Lovely olives of our trees soon, cheap food, cheap drink, cheap ciggs. Lots of friendly locals who treat us very well and are very welcoming. I remember last year I left the Rose Gardens and was walking back home when some young lads drove up. They were going same way and even though I had never seen them before they gave me a lift because they had seen me leaving just before them. How nice is that? (wouldn't normally hitch hike as such but they just stopped and offered me a lift and I recognised them)

DC => "Oh, you drunk, you drunk, you silly old drunk etc.." (The Dubliners). Wrong again, the last word is c... So much for your knowledge of the original Irish lyrics of this song! 'Fool' was substituted for broadcasting reasons. Richard

Lapta Mike, I have a similiar story about the lovely people the locals are! It was New Years Day in 2008 and being a 'sensible' Scotsman had been out all night before and all day celebrating. I was naughty and drove my car from Kyrenia to the 5 Fingers , but had to park around the back. I had a 'few' more and walked out the front door (as normal) and walked to the Sports Club at Ozankoy where I always used to park me car! Got there and no car, was blaming some locals for nicking it as always leave my keys in it, a police care came and sugar !! I remembered and apologised to the locals who all laughed. The Police listened to me and I told them where my car was, they took me to my car and I took my Keys and other documents out amd....... the police drove me home to my temporary residence in Ozankoy. Thats a reason why I love TRNC and will return when I retire, its a beautiful country and full of lovely people. God Bless them ALL !!!

ang, thats brought a smile to my face. I'm sick of all the expats moaning about this and that, all I can say to them is if you want to live in a foreign country then put up with the local 'customs' and ways etc. I have and I'm happy.

Mike, My sentiments entirely. I can tell of a lot of other lovely stories involving helpful TRNC people, who are so nice and genuine. Yes and as you point out we are in a foreign country and enjoy their ways and customs, after all why are we here? Yes I have a different story about the builder but not too bad but that does not detract me from having nothing but good to say about the TRNC. Im afraid there are a few EXPATS who think this is 'Little Britain' and will always winge at anything!! A few expat hostelries I will never frequent again as have been ripped off and given very poor service , but never had this with locally run places. I know Im off thread but Like you I am sick of threads wanting to snoop about bad things about the TRNC !!

Lilli....no-one can accuse you of being anti-TRNC and not giving it a go. However you have found to your cost that the TRNC govt is all take and no give ,and has no real interest in the problems of foreigners. I sincerely hope that you can find a way out soon and you can start a new life somewhere where the odds are not so heavily stacked against you.

expatlady....see my msg 6 It seems like you are unfortunately in the same position as we were. You did "the right thing" by buying Pre-74 and then got shafted by the TRNC govt. We weren't prepared to wait any longer. Foreigners are NOT being granted PTP on Pre-74 for applications made after 2006.....FACT. It depends how long you personally are prepared to wait for a change in the law....which may never come at all....and in the meantime with no deeds in your name you are at the mercy of memoranda etc. Good luck.

cronos/msg25: 'Foreigners are NOT being granted PTP on Pre-74 for applications made after 2006.....FACT.' I applied in August 2005 - result: refused PTP........FACT. The Vendor has given me 'Power of Attorney' to sell; but I doubt this gesture would prevent memorandums being placed on the property by some unforseen [government condoned] 'legal' scam..........

cronos............as I've posted previously, this was covertly decided right after the 2004 Annan Plan referendum - I had that information given to me, first hand, by a very close associate of 'the powers that be' - unfortunately and regrettably, though, after I had purchased the property.

msg 25, Cronos, luckily Iīm not in your position (more luck than wit: I just entered this marked later, thatīs all. I could learn from all the horror-stories) So: I have not paid for the property yet..and make as a condition that I will get PTP and title deeds before I pay. The seller boasts of "close connections" with 'the powers that be' ...we will see.

I think the camels back was broken some time ago. Lied to by builder/estate agent; refused PTP on Pre74 title/near an army camp; allegedly corrupt &/or incompetent advocates who owe clients no duty of care whatsoever and no comeback against them; allegedly corrupt, incompetent out of date legal system; allegedly corrupt, incompetent system of government; allegedly corrupt incompetent police service; lack of swift justice, security or faith in the legal system, advocates or police to protect you from malicious allegations of crime which when made drag people through the courts for years whilst detaining you in the TRNC; same lack of faith with regards getting financial protection or recompense for fraud or immoral though allegedly legal practices by banks in granting mortgages on property already sold. Apart from these few minor points, it's paradise. Luckily I'm not one of those whinger Brits some people refer to.

Hector, "Luckily I'm not one of those whinger Brits some people refer to" If you're refering to my post I didn't single out Brit expats, was talking about expats in general of many nationalities ;-) I do actually agree with the points you made aswell anyway

Too many 'straws' to list but most recent one was this morning when I was driving up the mountain road towards Arapkoy. Doing around 70kph when a van pulled out from a side track right in front of me, locked up all my brakes and skidded to a halt about 3 feet from the vehicle. Local driver still had mobile phone glued to his ear and seemed to think that this was a viable excuse. Shrugged and drove off quickly which is probably a good job as I was about to get out of my car and rip his feckin head off !! Third 'near miss' in as many weeks !! Be careful out there Paul
