They will not let you fit a meter not supplied by themselves. They are likely to just disconnect you & remove the meter. Ask them.

I am sure you will find that they will get some more in..........eventually. This running out of meters is a perennial problem here.

The electric cable should be there but they may have to connect it up to the main line, not a job that you or an electrician should be doing. Every one in cyprus will say 1 week or monday but which monday.

Last year we went to Kibtec with all our relevant documents and after spending the day there we were told 'one week' after one week and still no electricity we went back to Kibtec and where told to go to the power station, (near the water fall in Girne) we went there and the engineers found our request. Our electric was up and running the next day.

is it right that they can put you on temporarily without a meter. I think I read that some where on the forum.

Yep, if you have no meter because they have run out then they will connect you on a temporary basis provided you agree to pay a set amount every month - regardless of the amount used! You and them have to agree on how much an "average" bill is then you settle on that. Know this to be true as have had it happen to people we know. Don't loose hope they are more interested in selling electricity than anything else.

Monthly.

They leave a printed bill in your meter cupboard with the amount plus anything owing from previous readings.

I have a direct debit with Garanti bank which pays this off on the due date a few weeks after you get the bill.

They have been using the 'no meters' excuse for years. Sometimes they just don't want to do the job. Not an unusual thing in TRNC.

Paul beleive it, we paid over 1600 pounds plus 60 pounds stamt duty to the tax office to wait a month for the one at the restaurant, we quired the price as we knew we hadnt paid that much for the meter at the braserie, answer you are not a cypriot, cheaper for you if someone signs. well we waird a month then had it fitted , guess what it was from a batch they had bought from china (who said they cant trade when they want to ) wrong phose, a further wait another month we couldnt open, take your money and laugh. We would be in Kibtek office daily the funniest was when they had no power guess what no genni, you really cant make it up. our landlord has apartments above our units he let one 7 weeks ago, still no meter even though he has paid, (He was head of the tax office), going demented. we wait again x

Went to Kibtek this morning to pay my bill, and spoke to someone there who I have dealt with over the last 3 or so years, regarding similar types of problems. He confirmed that there was no meters in stock, and they had no idea when the next shipment would arrive.

Dont really help does it?

You can buy meters from all reliable electrical shops in the south. Bring it over, and ask Kib Tec to fit it.

Simples,

Geoff

Famagusta City

e.g. electrical shop near th bank traffic lights in Paralimni, Rep of Cyprus. About 100 euros.
