I think there will be a solution - both leaders will walk in opposite directions.

Hi Paul,

Re ; msg 1 - "Derviş tells it like it is"

I really don't think Derviş is in fact doing that. When he says that "It is out of question for the people of the TRNC to go back to the days preceding 1974" it really means, that in the event of a "solution", he is worried about international auditors inspecting all the documents for the distribution of GC property in the late 80s and early 90s when he, as prime minister and others in the current ruling TC elite, made a tidy packet in the corrupt dealings.

This "property issue" is unfortunately going to hold up proceedings - if you or your parents' family had lost property, as many GCs did, naturally you would want to seek compensation - Derviş is not being realistic if he thinks otherwise.

Crumpy, GCs don't need to wait to seek "compensation" they can go to the Immovable Property Commission NOW!

malsancak/msg 5: 'GCs don't need to wait to seek "compensation" they can go to the Immovable Property Commission NOW!'

So they can, but under present law, what is to stop the IPC obtaining recompense for the compensation amount they will have awarded the GC by placing a memorandum against the foreign [or even TC!] purchaser of said property who doesn't have either PTP, or Kochan, in his/her name?

A hypothetical scenario, but unless the current law is changed, a worrying possibility!

Can anyone advise how this could NOT be allowed to happen?

Crumpy

Yet another one sided post which doesn't mention TCs who lost their land and houses, oh and the other minor point missed so often from GC biased posts - their lives.

Also there is a word used in the quoted text which is missing from GC vocabulary- responsible. GCs are not responsible for anything are they?

I believe as its a government solution financially backed by the TR >there is no comeback on the current occupants as that would be viewed as creating another problem as would moving the current occupants out for the descendants of the displaced GC's of '74

All it needs is the roc to comply with the properties taken from the TC's as they are still in breach by not providing a reasonable solution

Hi Breezyboy

Re ; msg 7 - "Another one-sided GC post" - On the contrary Breezyboy - I believe the Turks HAD TO intervene in '74 to stop Sampson and his cronies from masacreing thousands of TCs.

Re ; msg 7 - "TCs lost their land and houses (in the south)" - According to an elderly TC friend of my fiance's family, virtually none of the TC-owned property in the south has been sold. Yes, the displaced Greeks have quite rightly been allowed to live in the said properties ... but they haven't been sold ... unlike here in the north.

Hı Alsancak - Re ; msg 5 - I'm aware GCs are already seeking compensation, but in the event of the much-hoped-for "solution", it will open the flood gates ... and it will require a team of international inspectors to sort out the mess.

Have to agree with Crumpy on this one. A few years back we were living in the South and looked at numerous properties. On a few occasions we looked at properties that were adjacent to 'open land'. When we enquired as to whether this land would be built upon, we were told that it was Turkish land and no one was allowed to build on it. Was over in the South a few weeks back and visited one of the villages that we considered buying in and the 'Turkish' land was still undeveloped.

Breezyboy - Take your point but while both sides dwell on what happened in the past, then no solution will ever be forthcoming. It is also worth remembering that those who committed the atrocities (on both sides) were in an absolute minority. The vast majority of Cypriots (GC & TC) had absolutely nothing to do with the killings.
