deecyprus4, I too saw this programme, it is a problem in most countries isnt it. But the amount of dogs that Battersea has to take in and deal with is quite sad. If they didnt put down the dogs I just hate to think how many dogs would be roaming around starving and killed on the roads... An unbelievable amount of beautiful dogs, just not wanted....

Out of the 3000+ Battersea put down last year, nearly 2000 were unhomeable. It's because of the vogue for having a hard dog.

Yes you are quite right about the trend in having a hard looking dog, did notice that there are a few of these dogs being bred now in NC on our last visit...

Hi derman she isnt a terrier, look a bit like a pointer but with the colouring of a lab. I know of some beautiful puppies which have just been taken to kar, they will be too young to leave mum as yet, as they are only a week or so old, if they survive they should be a month or so. the mum is beautiful, wasnt a terrier but exiotic looking, i cant remember what the post was headed on here, her photo is on it. Anyway to get back to my tess, she isnt big at all but i can in all honesty say how big she will get xx good luck with your choice but kar or daisy dukes should be your best choice

Lilli, I think it was headed Russian Pointer. http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/42263.asp Derman, I was going to say you could just hang around your villa and one will turn up within a few days but you said apartment. Lillis tess is lovely. My Efes is coming along well. Just shows you big scary dogs don't have to be nasty and aggressive. Pertev said that he's one of the best patients he has had.

wow, those photos are great. Poor mum feeding all them though. bless her! Must be a pup in that lot that grabs your heart msg1. Mind you all pups grab peoples hearts and then months later they seem to end up homeless. Good luck to all those people looking for homes for dogs at the mo that have the kindness to keep them for periods of time. x

Blade, we are determined that the puppies will go to good homes and responsible owners. We would be unhappy with a dog in an apartment.

We have 2 small dogs in an apartment, it is a large garden apt, gated off, and they are extremely happy. So it really does depend on the type of apartment would you not think?

An apartment, caravan, tent it doesnt matter. A dog will be happy living anywhere as long as there is food, exercise and love. How many dogs do you see caged or tied to kennels and trees next to huge houses with massive gardens.

It not just an apartment issue when rehoming a dog. Those people who live in an apartment and work full time, what sort of life is that for a dog? Then can you afford a dog, they do cost quite a bit to care for?. Jabs, frontline, food it all adds up. What time is going to be spent training a puppy if you are working? Flutterby, i know for one that you are a good dog owner and love your girls to bits. ( Especially fearless fred) lol. Maybe that will give you a clue to who i am! Do kar's do home and circumstance checks before rehoming dogs? I know in the uk most places are very strict.

I think we are getting away from the main issue here. For the first few weeks that we had Lucy, we were in our penthouse apartment so she was able to wander about up on the roof terrace. However, she was regularly taken out and we are retired so not too much problem. We would now like to find good homes for her lovely puppies and we will endeavour to ensure that they are not going to be subjected to being tied up all day. One can only do one's best and we will certainly do this.
