last week I was driving a jeep along the old road... I over shot a turning (which was poorly lit, nothing to do with my driving ha ha), I ended up in a ditch. Within 2 minutes at least 5 cars had stopped. Within 10 minutes, there were 10 cars there, 20 cypriot men were bouncing on the back of the jeep, whilst a jeep (which someone had recruited by phone fully equipped with tow rope) pulled me out of said ditch! I cannot thank these people enough (especially the pregnant london cyp girl who ordered everyone about!)

I agree i moved here 7 years ago alone and no turkish language and received nothing but help and kindness.I now speak fairly good turkish and have adopted grand children (my neighbours). Also my dearest friends are turkish and they have made me a part of their family. In the uk my best friends soon disappeared after my husband died and they were regular church goers as were we.Ok there are some bad apples here but thats the same the world over.

I stupidly (situation normal ) left my car lights on when I parked near the Amphitheatre - so when I got back to the car, it wouldn't start.

I was stood doing my Basil Fawlty impression - KICKING IT! - when a coach pulled up alongside. The driver gestured me to get in the car, and pushed it until the engine fired, then got back in his coach & drove off. Not a word was exchanged, although I gave him a cheery wave out of the window

On one of our holidays to nc we arrived late at night, which made it hard to find the villa we had rented,i stopped and asked a taxi driver,in the end there were three taxis trying to help us,in the end he said follow me,we went quite a few miles before we came to the villa,i insisted that he takes money for the petrol and maybe the loss of a fare paying passenger,he just refused payment.

And that's the beauty of the place, isn't it? The sort of behaviour that makes you feel better when something has got you feeling down.

And that's right, it is great to hear a positive comment like that.

Shame it has to be ruined by all the evil people there.

I broke down once when I was driving by myself on the one way part of the kyrenia high street when my car overheated. Before I knew it these men appeared from nowhere and pushed my car out of the way onto the pavement and fixed the pipe that burst and put water in the engine for me and waited until the car was ok again, then they left! That wouldn't happen in England.

Got a flat tyre in Starling (Lapta) car park - I also kicked tyre!! Man in car next to me got out and changed the tyre for me in about 3 minutes flat! Wonderful. He has a restaurant somewhere past Kayalar and I went along one Monday as an extra thank you, and he was closed! Never mind will try again. But its little things like that which hearten one after some of the "other" little things!

Great to hear such lovely comments. These fantastic little tales are overshadowed by the Negative stuff to the extent that they don't normally get said. The fact is that the average Cypriot is probably one of the nicest, kindest, most helpful people you will meet in the world. Unfortunately there are a few that ruin things on a much larger scale!

Personally we still love it here and the people are one of the main reasons.
