There will be no SILK CUT SILVER AGAIN! This time they are saying for about a month. I managed to find 3 packets only this afternoon West of Girne! My friend tried Lefkosa and found 5! If anyone is coming over, could you possibly bring me some! I can only smoke this brand and before anyone starts, I have no intention of giving up. THANK YOU! Claire 0533 8663921

the only place we MIGHT find any is in little shops off the beaten track. They will possibly have a packet or two left on the shelf! There are none left between Karaoglanoglu and Hos Bes, Lapta! I bought them this afternoon - all 3 packets!

Hi John! Hope you are well. Can we discuss this by email as I feel this thread will turn into a nasty discussion re smokers v non smokers and that is not why I started it. Thanks.

it was Ercan duty free i was thinking about if there are still some left. I think I would have to get a bank loan to pay the UK price from what I hear!

Claire, you're right - just checked the ASDA website & they're £6.13 for 20 & £3.25 for 10 !!!! It sure is an expensive habit but good luck with your search.

Smoking can kill you! STOP NOW!

I used to smoke 80 per day and I stopped 20+ years ago. If I can do it, so can you.

Jimmy G,

I had no consideration for what Claire thinks. The reality check was a genuine concern for her health.

Taken from the back page of Cyprus Today (today!):

'Winnie Langly, who smoked for 95 years from the age of seven has died at 102 years old- a month short of her 103rd birthday. She is pictured (here) lighting what was thought to be roughly her 170,000th cigarette on her 100th birthday.'

I guess if she had cut down then she would have made 103.

My father died at 45 from a heart attack whilst playing badminton for Sussex, never smoked, never drank alcohol and grew all of his own veg on his two allotments. He also had three jobs just to make sure 'us kids' had what we needed. So life deals out what it thinks it needs to deal out. Whether you smoke or not makes no real difference to your destiny.

I think the title of this thread is despicable. 'please please help me!!' as if there was an emergency or urgent need for assistance, not because you've run out of fags! How many people won't bother to read a similar but genuine plea for help in future?

Thank you for your interesting reply.

'But he had you as a Cyprus 44 moderator to contend with!'

I hardly think so, Cyprus44 and in fact the internet was not around when my father passed away.

'There are times I have felt my blood pressure come up when I was banned for SFA.'

You need to get that seen to. Maybe a visit to Nurse Awful would sort you out.

'Keep taking the statins!'

Statins? I do not even know what they are. I am thankfully medication free. Not bad for a 58 year old hey.

Take care

Sorry I checked every shop I could find in Girne this morning and not a packet to be had. Spoke to the man in the newsagents on the left of the High Street, he seems to think they will get them in Monday or Tuesday.

Claire try the casinos as they seem to be the main buyers of all the ciggies and stock pile them, perhaps your casino will have some in stock.

Thank you again. Unfortunately our Casino doesn't stock them. The hotel is going to get some brought in from Turkey this weekend! Chris, thanks for trying. Let's see what happens next week. Finally, I would like to apologise to those people who were upset by the heading of this post, and/or its content, but to me it's quite important. Sorry.

Statins are for lowering high chloresterol. Maybe it would be wise to have this checked every once in a while if you have a family history of heart problems -just to be on the safe side as high chloresterol isn't always associated with being over -weight.

It is ludicrous, in the face of all the medically proved information available now - to say smoking is harmless - either to the smoker or those who inhale passive smoke. If a person wants to smoke, knowing it is a case of "dying for a fag" or "ashes to ashes" so be it - as long as they don't impinge on other peoples space who loathe the stink, or who may be allergic, asthmatic, or have some pre-existing condition exacerbated by passive smoke. Those people who smoke and live into their old age are just lucky - either they don't inhale or they simply cough their way into their dotage, with their hair and clothes smelling of smoke, and their skin lined and yellowed from the smoke preventing Vitamin D being absorbed - but no-one in their right mind could say their health wouldn't be better if they didn't smoke.

Two rabbits escaped from a government experimental laboratory and came upon a field of cabbages frequented by young female rabbits. After a day of gorging and sated by sexual activity the two rabbits fell asleep under a hedgerow. One arose at sparrow fart and excitedly awoke the other one to tell him that in the next field were abundant carrots and dozens more females all gagging for it. The sleepy one replied "I know this is rabbit Utopia but I am giving myself up as I am dying for a fag ".

For all of those wonderful helpful people who think it is their task in life to convince people to stop smoking, please go away, you are actually hindering not helping the person who wants to stop smoking and befiore you start to get up the steps of the soap box it is a psychological thing. A person needs to want to stop by themself, trying to do it for someone else will never work as you will never feel it was your own choice and people whispering in your ear that it is bad fior you achieves nothing, we allready know that its bad but that hasn't stopped us so why wiould you think that someone else repeating it would help.

Leave people alone or if they do decide (of their own choice) to stop, encourage them but don't ever make them feel that they are dioing it for any other reason than their own or it will fail.

As for the person who didn't think the title was apt, what were you going to do, put on your superman cape and save the planet. She wanted help, she might get it.

Claire cat DID NOT ask for opinions on smoking....she simply asked if anyone cold get or find, her brand!!

Please leave her be in her quest!! No one likes to be told what to do...so don't do it!!

I imagine she (like most of us) are more than aware of the contraindications of such a habit...and should be left alone to do as she wishes....without all the do-gooders climbing on her back and shouting!!

Now...if you have no more sensible suggestions....go away and preach to someone else....

Claire...are you able to make a drive to the airport....i would assume there are plenty there.

Watching a parent die at a very young age of Lung Cancer caused by smoking is not very pleasant. It must be very difficult if you can't give it up. However life is for living and you should live it as you see fit. Life's too short. I would never condone or agree with smoking, it's up to the individual.

Yes, sad if you consider it almost an emergency to get the fags you need.

let me explain about silk cut silver. They are the ABSOLUTE LOWEST cigarettes on the market. They even have HOLES around the filter. Most smokers hate them because it's like sucking on a straw. The reason i'm trying to find them is because I don't want to start smoking normal, STRONGER cigarettes again. However, at the moment I am still a smoker and this is MY CHOICE. Until they make it ILLEGAL, people have every right to smoke if they so wish. We are not criminals.

Proger Msg 44,

For all those wonderful helpful people, who think that it is their task in life to convince people, to stop smoking, will you please go away.

I think you hit the nail on the head.......but why should we? Should it not be the smokers that go away and take their smelly antisocial habit with them. If you look at my original post, I said I had stopped 25 years ago, but I was now fat. (said of course with somewhat tongue in cheek) I have to pay the price of my increased weight, but passive smoking puts us all at risk.

As for Claire, she posted PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME! I thought that she was in some distress, and I offerred help based on my

personal experience, but like many posts on here they turn nasty and unpleasant. There is no need for it!

My personal view on SMOKING .....Please feel free to smoke yourselves round shouldered but keep your vile habit to yourselves

and don't leave me the bill, for your healthcare costs, from what will most

Wyn, because you posted this directly at me I will answer although I believe it to be a waste of time as you didn't read my post obviously.

Like many, many others on here you are judging situations by your own feelings which normallyare nothing to do with others and in this case as stated by claire, definatelty not but you still posted your beliefs.

Congratulations on stopping smoking 25 years ago, now please enlighten me on how you were felling at the time you stopped smoking, I would be astounded if you have the slightest recolection.

I have just stopped smoking and can honestly say that the closest I have come to restarting is when I hear people tell me I should do it because of, whatever the reason is, it doesn't matter. I will stop because I want to stop, not because of anybody elses opinion.

Taken from a book written by a man who has helped millions of people stop smoking.

The hardest thing for the smoker is the fear of failure when they try to stop.

If the smoker is attempting to stop for any other reason than their own, they can give in instantly and say "I didn't fail because I was not doing it for me, I was doing it for someone else"

My point was attempted to be, if all you can do is repeat what the smoker allready knows you are just making it harder to stop. If Claire does want to stop smoking, someday, I will if invited to be involved try and help her and support her decision, I won't be critical, remind her of every thing she allready knows about the bad side of smoking or tell her that she should do it because I did it. That doesn't help, in fact it makes it harder.

I have a feeling you stopped using the Cold Turkey method Wyn and while I do applaud you for that, it is never really giving up because you are always woried you might start again and try to re-enforce your beliefs by shouting it out.

As for health care costs, silly comment really.

Please keep the smoking opinion to yourself as it can harm others.

just to let you know i think i have solved the problem for the time being. Someone suggested Davidoff WHITE. They are 0.1mg like Silk Cut Silver and also have holes round the filter so I will try them. Thanks to everyone who tried to help. I think we should close this thread now.

Proger 1. I agree with your post at 59 in entirety. I will never tell anyone to stop smoking even if they are terminally ill from it though I will congratulate those who achieve, and better still, maintain non smoking. Some 20 years ago I stopped smoking for 6 months, 3 weeks, and 2 days. Thought I had it cracked until I stupidly had a cigar from time to time at social events having always loved the smell of cigars but not particularly the taste. This led to routine, heavy smoking. I still carry the shame of being such a wimp and the disappointment of family, friends, and colleages haunts me to this day. As you say I now rely on the cowardice of believing that it is useless to put myself through months of withdrawal knowing that I will fail a second time even if I exceed 6 months. That said, I hold no grudges whatsoever, against those who tell me to stop smoking as I know, that like Wyn, whilst they abhor smoking in their presence, they also genuinely care for mankind.

deputydawg.

Nobody with exception of yourself can call you a coward. I have tried to stop several times myself and always found it hard to stay stopped because I believed that after stopping once, I caould easily do it again so made the mistake of haveing 1 more.

If you are still interested in stopping (not trying to, actually stopping) send me a mail and I will forward you some info that has me convinced that I will never smoke another and there is nothing horrid about the info, just some truths that nobody ever bothers to tell you.

All the best, Paul

Jimmy boy, what is misleading about it.

Claire wanted help, she might have had it from several people.

Just because you don't think it is important doesn't matter. Claire was asking for help because she believed it to be important to her.

If an elderly person (no offence, just a choice I made) required drugs from a pharmacy to make them feel better but couldn't find the said drug anywhere, would it be sad for them to ask for help in locating it.

I know most of you will not believe me but smoking is a drug addiction, not a habit.

If it were a habit you could set fire to anything wrapped in paper and smoke the fumes and you would not crave a cigarette, the alternates (anti-smoking aids) would not be nicotein replacement systems.

Here is a great one from the book I have read.

If a heroin addict, a criminal as such, walked into a hospital for help in the UK, they would be given it. A smoker with an addiction wouldn't and heroin only kills a few hundred per year, why's that ?

Jimmyboy................ Claire was urgently trying to find a mild cigarette rather than having to resort to the normal stronger type. Surely this is good ? As for the title of the post....it wouldn't take long to find out that noone was dying. And surely if you needed urgent...for instance medical help, you wouldn't be posting here.

I am assuming you are a perfect human being without any vices ?

And as for Claire she is far too sensible to get involved in a slanging match. And far too sensible also to comment on the very many who drink far too much and cause problems for others in a more serious way.

mess 66....answer no far from it.

The post title should have read " Where can I buy a certain brand of fags", instead of the misleading title that she used

It's such a pity that Claire's original concerns expressed in Msg 11 have become a reality. Wyn in MSG 57 says he offered help based upon personal experience - no you didn't - other than to imply because you stopped anyone can & in Msg 20 you admitted you had no consideration for what Claire thinks but decided to offer your 'help' anyway.

Claire, I'm glad that you're sorted now and hope that the Mods take note of your request in MSG 61 to close this thread.

Why, of the 1460 odd views only 2 comments against the title, why should what Claire believes be changed to what you want.

It did exactly what was intended, got peoples attention and hopefuuly got Claire some answers.

In fact you are still posting on the thread about something completely different to the posts intent, maybe in your case it should have been titled, please get the title of the posts more accurate, or in my case as I am also posting, please stop having a go at smokers just because you don't like it but wait, this was Claires post so she titled it how she wanted, nothing to do with your choice of phrase.

There are many titles that don't always agree with the post, lets face it, you are just another believer that how you would do something is better than how someone else did it but people have the choice and the freedom to do what they want, not what you want.

Damn, 2 days I have been back and I am getting wound up with selfishness again, I'm outa here.

Article on proven fact that second hand cigarette smoke alters genes................I'm not perfect, who is - BUT nothing I do to myself, harms anyone else.............and I feel sure it must be really hard to give up this drug habit, but (correct me if I'm wrong) can't one get Nicotine patches free on the National Health? to aid giving up smoking...........plus heaps of other help in that regard........
