I put a dress in with my damp bathers and forget about. left the bag in the car and only discovered it yesterday. Now I have a horrid mildew stain on one of my favourite dresses. Washed it 3 times to no avail. Any ideas please before i bin it x

Hi Lilly,

Good Housekeeping book recommends that you put lemon juice on the stain and cover with salt. Leave to dry and then brush off and launder in usual way. Hope this works for you.

Soak in a cold water solution of vanish liquid. It may need to soak for several days before it all comes out.

Have got one on a t-shirt I forgot to dry out and I have followed advice of a very dear aunt

of mine who told me to wet the mark well and rub white soap into it, then leave it out in the

sun for a time. It may take a few goes, but it does work with stubborn stains where you don't

want to use harsh chemicals. Of course, with the sun you're getting now might bleach it lighter!

Hi Lilli,

Try "Oxi Action" I think it is or "Kosla Oxi action" it's called. It's used for removing heavy stains.

Liz, once you get rid of the stain, if it still smells, spray it with neat vodka. This tip along with a few others was on the TV the other day. Hope you can get your dress clean and smeling nice agan.
