Lieutenant General Hilmi Akin Zorlu handed over his duty to the new Commander of the Cyprus Turkish Peace Forces-Lieutenant General Adem Huduti. The ceremony took place at the Girne Headquarters of the Cyprus Turkish Peace Forces Commandership.



In his farewell speech, Lieutenant General Zorlu said Lieutenant General Adem Huduti was not only taking over the commandership of the Cyprus Turkish Security Forces but was also in charge of protecting the peace and tranquility on the island of Cyprus that was founded 36 years ago.

Next the new Commander of the Cyprus Turkish Peace Forces Lieutenant General Adem Huduti made a speech and emphasized that he would do everything in his power to protect the people of the TRNC and peace on the island.



President Dervis Eroglu then said that the Cyprus Turkish Peace Forces means peace and freedom for the Turks of Cyprus.



He said if there is peace on the island today and if the two peoples on the island are living side by side under two separate administrations in serenity and in security it is solely thanks to the Cyprus Turkish Peace Forces.

The President stated that there was no point in dragging on with the Cyprus negotiations process and added that it was his aim to find a solution by the end of the year.

Noting that although the Turks of Cyprus and motherland Turkey were justified in their cause, the President said the Cyprus issue was being put as an obstacle in front of Turkey during its EU membership process.



Eroglu said if Turkey was forced to make a choice between the European Union and the TRNC, Turkey has made it clear that it will choose the TRNC.
