I read a recent article where a minister of the interior stated that they estimate there are 35.000 workers in the TRNC working without a permit.

I admit I havn't a clue how many expat entertainers there are here but I would think 40 max.

Why is so much effort been put into killing off the entertainment industry which if anything is helping to keep places open by attracting tourists and customers. The pubs and restaurants that are closing down have precious few customers as they are being attracted to the pubs with the live entertainers.

Surely it would be a lot simpler to de-regulate the entertainment industry and have the taxes due deducted at sourse (pub or hotel) and tax paid receipts given to the performers to show if investigated. The main regulating factor would be the number of tourists.

This new curb is a major step backwards in attracting 'money spending' holiday makers from outside Turkey.

This island will turn into a Karyoki Kingdom, or is this another tax I

I think that the ack of entertainment will be another nail in the coffin for some bars and restaurants. Such a shame. I would think that a huge proportion of toursts who visit tend to visit places with entertainment.

Why can't the bars & restaurants that hire the entertainers, give them a receipt when they pay them? Every month the entertainer takes the receipts to the tax office and pays his tax, just like we do with our rental income. The bars and restaurants must keep account books, so any receipts can be checked out.

message 2: you are so right!

The Butlers wife has the answer to the tax problem but not the work permit issue. Maybe entertainers could be granted a special work permit allowing them to work in various locations which hold a music licence (one of the only licences that are free!)

This way everyone wins!

Hi Hal,sorry my mind goes quicker than my fingers,A customer dropped some food in for Ismail. The government officials decided to call in on us. saw the food bag on the floor and checked the dates. They were out of date so they confiscated them. I tried to explain that they were not for sale but a gift to a family. They wouldnt have it so took them away. I do not think that the people who donated they realised, its the shops selling out of date products. I never even thought to check but i will have to in future. hope thats a better explanation.
