Has anyone ever suffered from clicking in the jaw and a continues ache. Its nothing to do with the teeth but in the actual joint. If anyone has suffered from this please explain if or how you cured it. Doctor here prescibed a muscle relaxant but has no effect as yet. I dont talk that much before someone says it.

I saw this on the Internet when someone asked a similar question as you'

"My husband had this problem, dentist said it was the mandibular joint fitted him for a gum sheild to wear at night to force it back into alignment. He hated wearing it as it was uncomfortable but no longer has the problem."

Hope this helps - you may needto see a Dentist

Perhaps a swift, walloping 'uppercut' from a big 'bunch of fives' would fix the problem?

Can i suggest that you go to the dental faculty at the near east uni in Nicosia. For around 100 tl you will get a check 2 check ups, 6 months apart and that dentist will refer you to whatever department respsonsible for your problem You are not seen by students and I believe each department has a professor.

I was impressed with the hygiene

turn left at main roundabout in Nicosia, turn left just after the footbridge and the uni is several 100 metres on the left. It is huge but follow the signs for DIS FACULTY and you will find it quite easily. Dis meaning dental I suppose

had the same problem for years and given gum shield didnt stop it and have been refered to consultant who is in guzelyert as sometimes can mean a slight op! however reading the above I will try there. Also a dentist in uk told me to rib ib rofen cream or similar around the area at night and to take tamazipan inliquid form very slight amount. Havent done that yet and will be off to Nicosia to see wht they suggest.

I have had the same thing for years after a car accident some 20 odd years ago. I've seen doctors, dentist, tried the gum shield, exercises for the jaw, and a course of physiotherapy for 4 months and nothing has made any difference, so have now just given up. I ws told that probably the only way to cure it was an operation, but my doctor said this really was a last resort, and if I could live with it, that was his advice.

Does it affect the way you eat or the way you talk?

Hi there,

I know your problem, well it sounds similar to what I had, if you look on the internet for "TMJ" this sounds to me like your problem.....I had surgery albeit a couple of surgeries to my jaw but my case was out of the ordinary, however all is well now. Go to your dentist first off and get referred straight away, don't put up with the pain. In the short term whilst you are waiting to see a "maxillofacial surgeon" try to relax your jaw as being "tense" and "worrying" about it does make it worse. Have you tried cold and heat therapy? First ice then a warm flannel.....

Good luck, get that referral.

I have now seen a lady dentist/consultant that was in Guzelyurt but now has a surgery in Nicosia. She was very good and said the jaw is ok and the joint but I have a muscular problem and need to try and relax the jaw. It doesnt seem to be working though and has been 10 days now so going back on tuesday. I do have a nice xray of my teeth and jaw on a disc now.

Would be nice to be kept informed of any treatments that anyone else has in the meantime.

Hi Basilbrush,

Could be that one tooth is longer on the one side so your bite is lopsided. The tooth can be filed down.

This puts a strain on the unequal muscles around the TMJ.

I had TMJ for years after the removal of my wisdom teeth. Had the night jig shield to stop me grinding my teeth but what cured the clicking, pain and dislocation of the joint was 2 visits to a chiropractor.

Never looked back and the problem of years of pain when eating chewy foods cured.

Honestie

She is now in nicosia close to the general hospital. If you come from girne to the big roundabout and go straight across past the general hospital to the next small roundabout and turn left and then take next left, and then next left again you will see her sign on the side of a block of flats.

Her name is Dr Filiz Besim No is 05338600260. I was charged 100tl for a check up and for an xray with a cd disc to take, to my own dentist. I felt very comfortable with her and especially when I saw all the certificates from the usa, uk and turkey on her wall. She specialises in complicated dental surgery and maxilla facial problems.
