A beautiful, very friendly dog, black with white front, very young bitch showed up well over a week ago in Lapta main road. She has a KAR tag on her ear no. 000522. According to KAR a couple telephoned them last April to say that they would feed the dog but could they have a ticket to get her spayed. They apparently took the dog to the vets and picked her up from the vets. Despite numerous phone calls as usual to KAR, they tell me that they need to go through the tickets from the vets for last April. They had said they would do it last Monday, but on Friday Karen told me that it was not her priority! and i would have to wait until next Monday well well over a week for the volunteers to go through the tickets. I find this so sad as the bitch has obviously been fed but got lost and I would have thought the priority would have been to find the owner even if they only have a telephone number. Does anyone recognise the dog. Please tel. me North Cyprus 0533 8748041

If it is a tagged dog then it is regarded as a street dog and as such does not belong to anyone (or anyone that will own up to it). Most street dogs get fed and in fact we are feeding one at the moment at our house. I am not sure what you are expecting from KAR but they are immensely understaffed and their priorities are getting strays neutered and feeding resident dogs and puppies of which most of require medical attention. If you have not paid a visit to KAR then I would suggest you take some time out to do so and then maybe you will understand what they are up against. They may even let you go through the records yourself!

Oh and by the way.

Thanks for the dog tag number as my wife will be working at KAR tomorrow (as a volunteer) and if she has time (8 hours a day/ 3 days a week (not including travelling from Alsancak) she will try and find out some more information for you.

They have already told me that it is not a street dog, but one that has been taken on, they told me that someone would look into it last monday, I am now told that the message was not passed on from the person taking calls last Saturday, I am not interested in the politics of KAR, just that the owner is found

Heaven

It is not KAR's responsibility to find out who the owner of an abandoned dog is. The simple fact that it is tagged means it was found on the street.

As I said my wife will try and get any information that the records provide for that tag number.

I would suggest that you take a photo of the dog and provide a link to it on this site and that may help you in finding its original owner. But you will need to provide some more information i.e. does the dog respond to English spoken commands?

Thank you, it would be great if your wife can find some info out, apparently, because the dog was given a ticket to be spayed they will have a telephone number only, according to Karen? I think that was her name and it was definately April this year when the ticket was given

Why not phone around the vets and ask if anyone there remembers this dog?

Someone may.

message 4,

Surely if this dog was adopted by someone they would have had the tag removed from it's ear?

KAR tells me that the vets put on the tag if they have ticket fom them for Speying unless anyone knows any different. Very sad that I have not seen dog today after trying to find info from KAR for nearly 2 weeks and have been feeding it for that time, hope I see it tomorrow as it is still only a puppy

Hi heaven

KAR will hopefully provide you with the information today as all of the paperwork is at the Girne office.

KAR use more than one vet due to the amount of neutering they carry out.

If it was neutered this year it is very likely that the vet was either Firdez or Sibel

I stand to be corrected but the normal practice at KAR is that a dog is not tagged unless it has been speyed/neutered. I have been doing the vets run at KAR for over 12 months and this has been the standard practice all the time that I have been doing the job. The animal is actually tagged on completion of its' operation and will normally spend a few weeks at KAR recovering before being released.

Many thanks to you, I assume it was your wife maggie who called me from KAR this morning for info on the dog. Within half an hour she telephoned me back to say she had found the ticket and contacted the lady who had taken the dog on. It seems, she had found a home for the dog and had not realised that the dog had been wandering for nearly two weeks. Very happy ending, the dog had wandered back to her, hence I could not find it yesterday. She has now decided to keep the dog herself. Thanks Maggie, I can stop worrying now and put away the feeding bowls -- until the next one turns up !!!!
