Hi all,

We are retiring to the TRNC in the next few months. we thought we had better check our life insurance policies to see if they would still be valid when we move. It would appear from the wording that they will cover us if we remain in Europe. In the event that they don't, how easy is it to get life cover in the TRNC and how much would it cost for people in their sixties?

Technically. as the TRNC is still part of Cyprus albeit with the acquis 'suspended' one could argue that it is part of Europe. However, for clarity I would get it confirmed in writing by your insurance company. Forewarned is forearmed as they say

I agree ask them for guidance.

Holiday insurance for the eu covers here, but as we know insurance companies hate to pay out, so check and get it in writing.

HMR&C class TRNC as being NOT in EU, for VAT purposes. Any items of large value, such as new cars, should be purchased under the "Personal Export Scheme" and VAT will NOT be applied.

You take out LIfe Insurance when resident in the UK and at that time have no intention of living abroad but then many years later you move abroad to live, wherever in the world you move to you will still be covered by your life insurance.
