Purchased a new large wind up sun umbrella from Marshalls yapi market on the main road between Esentepe and Bachelli, cost 225 TL late June. They have been out twice, because 1.it failed to stay up.2.a part broke off and finally the plastic near the head of the umbrella broke off completely. Their reaction was if I pay maybe a further 40-50 TL it possibly could be repaired.

I asked for my money back, No Way said the manager at the Catalkoy branch. So folk beware!!!!!!!!!!

A very dissatisfied customer

Par for the course with most retailers here. No statutory rights in TRNC!

Unfortunately "guarantees" aren't worth anything here, we had the same with a pool pump but once we threatened to go on the forum and the papers we got our new pump - amazing isn't it! You should not have to threaten though.

If you check out the family name of the proprietors, it says it all.

Too rude to post.

Had the same issues with the same branch-a hose reel lasted one week then fell to pieces.

The young lad contacted his boss who said" no refund"-I spoke to his boss on the telephone and told him I would mention his "no refund policy "on Cypruss 44..He then changed his mind and gave me a full refund.

Not going there again-its the best thing to do.

Have to say that I have never had any problems with Marshalls but then again I have only ever bought nails, screws and water fittings from them. If I want to buy anything that I feel needs a guarantee then I go to the South where I have never experienced any problems with exchanging 'faulty' goods.

Marshalls is the name of a brand of paint and decorating materials, NOT the name of a Yapi Market.

What is the actual trading name of the Yapi Market with which you had a problem?

Well done Keith, this is a common misconception here and because people put up huge signs with MARSHALLS on them they unfortunately are all lumped together as the same which couldn't be further from the truth, however I must say that I travel a little further into Esentepe village and the Yapi market there is so obliging and prices are comparable with most others

Lazy days,

As I was reading your post, I had this thought...

I presume, that the 'MARSHALLS' signs are paid for by Marshalls themselves - just like Efes provide bar/restaurant/'market' signs, bunting, Parasols etc & get their name plastered all over (and get the customers plastered )

- Yet we never get confused and say 'I'm just popping down to the Efes Bar' - or do we?

Imagine the conversations...(it IS Sunday morning after all)...

"Where did you get that from?"------"Efes!"

"Where are you off to?"-------"Efes!"

"What's yours?"--------"Efes!"

Works for me!

When anybody says Marshalls they mean Tayf Ltd “Marshalls” Yapi Market on the Girne- Lapta road as per the BRS website at http://tinyurl.com/29lpklk

malsancak,

You are precisely WRONG! - and that's why I posted msg 9...

cornishoggy, in message 1, was referring to the Catalkoy Yapi market as 'Marshalls' - which it ain't!

Keith what I was saying is that the BRS, like me, uses "Marshalls" to refer to Tayf Ltd. I often get told this in conversations, as in "you get it in Marshalls" and further explanation reveals they mean Tayf Ltd. I get your very important point about making sure you don't end up thinking the complaint is about the wrong one as in this thread. I've found "Marshalls" to be excellent, they taught me how to paint the bungalow and saved me £1000.

Now confusion sets in!

"Marshalls" is a make of paint as keithcaley said.

The Tayf branch (which has a large Marshalls sign) which is near Lemar, west of Kyrenia, is being dragged into this. Is the Yapi market in Esentepe a Tayf shop? I don't know but people should be carefull here. I have dealt with Tayf for nearly four years and never found them to anything other than helpfull, courteous and honest.

Perhaps if anyone has a problem with a business it would be better to do some homework first and make sure that you are complaining to the right person.

Cornishoggy

Does the "manager" you were talking to own the business or is he just a local manager? Perhaps if he is not you should speak to the owner before coming on here. In any event you ended up criticising a brand of paint about buying an umbrella off them. ROFL

Gordon Bennett! There is no shop called Marshalls. Marshalls is a brand of paint. To further compound the confusion, Im pretty sure that the Yapi market in Karakum which sells Marshalls Paint is not a TAYF shop. I was not referring to a shop in Karakum in any case. Karakum is East of Kyrenia.

Hello peeps

Perhaps I can shed some light on this, the Yapi at Esentepe is owned by The same peeps as the one in Karakum they both (as do other yapis) have large MARSHALLS signs outside, but for the peeps who are here a bit longer than others they will know that Tayf are a most helpful company and are probably one of the earliest stockists of the MARSHALLS paint brand - however they are not the same company as TAYF

phew

BTW keithcaley loved mess 11

Demirbilek or something like that is the name of the one on the main road just past the Esentepe turning.

This is the parent business... the one in Esentepe is another branch - you will notice with interest that the owner puts stress on the guarantee of his products...

Slightly off topic but a similar issue. Shops that sell Arcelik products are not Arcelik. They are franchises.

If you buy Arcelik goods in the one near Girne Belediyesi, it is not the same business as the one near the Police Station/market.

Same with Ermitas. Ermitas in Lefkosa is the original. The one in, Girne new harbour road is a franchise.
