Hi had some friends staying at my villa in Alsancak opposite Escape Beach, not sure how they got in might be through the utility room window

They made off with about £400 and mobile phone,

The annoying thing is I have a safe and fitted security locks the last time I was out there

Police were called and statements taken

Just thought I'd let you all know

This is getting out of hand, use to be such a nice country once where you could leave the front door wide open, I hope you get your possessions back and they get what's coming to them. Thanks for the heads up I live in catalkoy but I will be a bit more cautious.

Buy a safe and put it in an obvious place with nothing in...

Then hide money, passports etc in a place that these morons wont even think about looking.

They think we are stupid cos we have a safe and thats the first thing they look for, smash and grab.

Hi Fullham Fan,

Could you tell me the date your robbery occured, was it day or night time

were your visitors in the villa at time of the robbery ? the only reason we are asking is we have a villa

close to escape beach and also had money taken, but nothing else, ours happened durin the night

with family and children in bed, wondering if it was the same night? thanks

I agree with deger and john good. this country used to be a very nice country, you would even sleep with your front door and windows open but now that the mainlanders have taken over the place, unfortunately we do not have the freedom to live safely!

oceana and deger and john good. I remember growing up in a country where every one in the street left thier doors open constantly. It was called Scotland. You can't blame the country for the indicviduals that commit crimes, you can to a certain extent blame society. Should I have blamed the influx of foreigners to the country I was raised in for the fact that the crime rate went up ???

apology accepted. Just hate people being targeted or blamed in things when theres no proof

Having been in the profession so to speak to label certain races as being responsible for a crime just because of the race was and is in my opinion just ignorance bit like saying dont leave a car parked in liverpool there will be no tyres when you get back.

and there starts another thread but not related to TRNC

I just hate it when people just jump to conclusions without a shred of evidence .

ok Im off my high horse now whoever it is doing it they will regret it more when they are caught than if it was in the UK

As long as people live like humans it does not bother me, but when they ruin the country by setting fires, raping, stealing, selling drugs, causing vilonence or even shooting people, it does upset me. Why should they ruin such a nice country and I blame the goverment for making them citizens of this country. I agree with you Lilli, more mainlanders to come.

Honestie, by saying they have taken over the place, what I mean is that, they have only ruined the country, if they allowed people to live peacefully then I wouldn't mind them taking over the place.

theres a lot more behind the scenes activity involving TCs! This thread was to warn people re security and to be aware surely. Not a vendetta against mainlanders as if you want to have another thread about this country not being safe bla bla and the government then I suggest you do it

oceana, These things happen on a regular basis now, in the south - not in the TRNC.

Are you a holiday homeowner?

I'm a Turkish Cypriot Trooda, I'm not a holiday homeowner. I can see that these things happen on a regular basis in the South but it's happening on a regular basis in the North too, every day when I read the news paper I either see people getting caught by police for dealing with drugs, or thieves being caught. I wasn't comparing North and South I was just putting across how in time North has changed (past and present). What concerns me is the North because this is where I am living and I'm only pointing out how the North has changed in the past years from being a very nice and safe country to an unsafe country.

Ballyboffin, I can see that your much older than me, can't you just respect my opinion, rather than talking about what farts and the smells you like!

Sorry Oceana. You are right, crime is on the increase, but to suggest the TRNC is on par with the rest of the world on rape, burglaries, or drugs, is a little exaggerated. This dose not include fraud or political corruption alas. My reverence to holiday home occupiers, was because at this time of year the forum is inundated with part-timers that often only know half the facts. Consequently, we have drivel like thieving Turks, when people that actually live here know that it is often others who are caught, including ex-pats.

totally agree I am afraid I get on my high horse when people immediatelt judge a culture and than they get blamed for it . Simillr to many inceident on the greek islands several years ago when they used albanian to do the menial taks and then when there was ant crime immediately blamed them.

Ocean I understan how you feel but you seriously also need to keep a perspective on it . TRNC in respect of the sort of crime you are talking about is probably on a day to day basis one of the safest places. If you want to look furthe then you should look at nightclubs casino bla bla bla which by the very nature of the business can also bring along organised high crime and as you shoul know shootings and maybe drugs.

the scenario you put on the forum is well over the top and a lot of the serious crime you/ we wouldnt even know about.

My point to you and others is.: it is a really uneducated bias view to immedaitely blame other races, culture

in response to theres been a breakin.

Message 30 oceana,

I beg your pardon, I was not being disrespectful of your opinion, I was pointing out another quotation by Oscar Wilde in relation to message 26. It is called humour, perhaps you are too young to understand.

Having been a victim of these burglars twice, I certainly do not take lightly that people have had break-ins. I have to say that it has never happened to me here in Northern Ireland, so it was a bigger shock when it did in 'Safe' TRNC.

I do not think it fair that you are pointing the finger at the mainland Turks as being the culprits, there are dishonest people in every race.

Where abouts is your property located? You mentioned opps escape, by that do you mean mountain side?

If so was it one of the Sante-Fe or Sergin escape villa's?

Gooner Boy.. it is mountain side- one of the Santa Fe Escape 1 villas. We live on the same site. I believe it was Thursday night... last week... could be wrong though...My days seem to be rolled into 1 at the moment!!

We were lucky - we have a dog who spent the entire night barking and keeping me up wondering what was going on... did go down on several occasions and knew something wasn't quite right but, unfortunately couldn't see anything amiss and went back to bed... Kicking myself now! Although not sure what I would have done in my pyjama shorts and vest!!!

Hope all's well Joe!! Will try to be more vigilant next time Daisy discovers her inner wolf!!!

See you soon.

I once worked in a law firm which had security at least on a par with most adjacent commercial premises. It was burgled several times a year for many years resulting in the normal losses, material damage, destruction of documents and much time being spent making statements to police who seemed powerless to do much. At one time I put a sign in my office which said "please help yourself to the petty cash tin which is in the bottom drawer of the filing cabinet nearest the door. I would be grateful if you do not trash my office" It worked to a degree so cost approx £200 per annun to limit the amount of inconvenience at my bench. This was in a County which statistics deemed to be perhaps the least risk for crime. It was one of the factors in quality of life which brought me to Cyprus. Hope the inevitable growth of crime here proceeds at a very, very slow rate ! I feel so sorry for those who have suffered the even more traumatic experience of being burgled in their homes.

Spanna, I know they had problems there about 6 months ago as well. have friends living on that site.

How about the Sergin villas just behind you, you know the extra wide ones just before you come onto the sante-fe site how safe are they?

2weeks ago saw a police car mulling around one of them. Did ask but he said everything was ok.

Not sure, they think it was the utility room window they must have forgot to lock it, the police would not believe

them at first because of all the locks I had fitted,

Fulhamfan,

That is where they came in ours and several of our neighbours. We now have bars on that window, cost £20. Before that though, they came in another window that we suspect wasn't locked. They are crafty B'strds and will be cheeky enough to go around checking all the windows. If you have shutters, be sure to close them before dark, even if you have locks on the windows. After it's dark it's hard to see if they are closed or not.

So we've had two of the sante-fe ones in a week.

If the window is closed but not locked, would they resort to smashing it, or have they done, or are they only accessing through doors/windows left open?

There are quite a few of us who live full time on the site so pretty sure if they made noise - we'd all be up and Daisy would make sure of it!!!

Think it's opportunism - seeing an open window and hopping in... I know there were a couple about 6months ago and of a similar ilk!

I might just let Daisy at 'em next time... although - I might have to tie bacon to their bums to get her to go near enough to bite them!!!! ;)
