Hi all,

My husband being a butler has over the years collected some quality wines. We realise we cannot bring them all to Cyprus when we move there but we would like to bring about 3 dozen bottles. Does anybody know the implications of doing this?

We brought some wine over when we came although it wasnt that much. Maybe if you can prove that you have owned it for a while and that its not for resale, then you may be ok, but they will probably still tax you quite a bit. Its probably best to check with the shipping company or an agent here first, or could you not bring a few bottles over at a time (each time you or someone visits)?

Brought 8 cases of mixed wines in our container and declared the lot. Customs looked at them and as there were only two or three of every one they were not interested at all - all gone now but the memory lingers on!!!

Unless you have a temperature controlled room/big fridge I think the Cyprus climate will turn it into vinegar PDQ

One of our very good friends is a wine collector, (he is teetotal) But he has an entire wine cellar, all properly stored and detailed, Its like walking into A Restaurant wine cellar in France.

1'000s of bottles. He brought them all over in one of his containers, he said the only problem was a few cases went missing.

Thank you all for your replies, we have decided to sell the better ones at auction and only bring enough to fill a wine fridge, which we will bring with us.

Don,t sell them, just bring them to Lillies. and a few of us will help you drink them.

Now isn,t that a much better idea, and just think of all the new friends you will make.
