Just got back after a great holiday in TRNC which was our first time there,we decided to go to The Patina on our first night, had 1 G&T, 1 large Efes, 2 main meals which were 29TL each & 2 glasses of wine, the bill came to 156TL, waiters just kept ignoring me when I tried to get their attention, so took the bill inside got hold of someone, when I queried the bill I was told " Oh they gave you someone elses bill, don't worry I knew about it". So if you knew about it why did'nt you come to the table with the correct bill ?, shrug of shoulders. Was given another bill of 84TL. How many people would have just paid, spoilt our first night, food was ok, service appalling.

It has all the hallmarks of a 'try on'. How many people would have paid it and then never returned? It's typical of the 'grab today' short term attitude that seems part of the culture unfortunately.

1 G&T =7 tl ( local ) 10 if import

1 large Efes,=6tl

2 meals@29 tl =58tl

2 glasses of wine &7 tl each=14 tl

working on top eateries prices total should have been no more than 85 tl if no itemised bill send it back and ask them for an itemised one.

Well we went last night and the food and service was, as usual, excellent.

Superb food on the set menu. 3 courses for 32Tl.

Beautiful setting and attentive waiters.

I think I have read a few negative comments on here recently, since Huseyn moved to patina Kebab, but I think the new manager is extremely helpful and responsive, just as he was when he was head waiter.

Mr Vince I hope people make up their own minds and do not heed your avoid advice, I think it was you who wrote negatively about Patina earlier in the week when your friends tried to use Euro change to pay the bill. There is no way banks here take Euro change and we all know that.

Patina remains one of our top five restaurants and we use it all year round.

We can honestly say we have never had anything but EXCELLENT food and service whenever we go to Patina.

Yes it was me who wrote a previous link to avoid The Patina, and you are correct when you say that my friends did offer Euro coins as part payment of their bill; exchanged to Lira when it was pointed oout to them that coins could not be banked. Our friends were not aware that Euro coins were not acceptable currency here.

I, as you do, have a right of free speach, and in my opinion The Patina did not provide food of edable quality, nor service of any worth to our party during our recent visit. We are obviously used to better.

Just as you rise to the defence of The Patina and sing its praises, then I will rise and advise to avoid it.

I am sure that no one takes a blind bit of notice about what you or I say. They will make up their own minds; so if someone decides not to eat at Patina because of my posting thats not my fault.

I ment to add to my previous posting that 1206 people viewed my posting of 18th and to date 466 have viewed this posting. I wonder how many will visit Patina as new customers as a result of these postings, and I wonder how many will avoid The Patina based on these.

Hello everyone good morning.

My Wife has just pinched the paper so I have to stop reading the pages and pages of print on Asil Nadir!

Unfortunately the type of exchanges seen on this subject where positions become more and more extreme only serve to cloud the issue.

I have posted my thoughts on Patina on many occasions which are:

It's a restaurant with illusions of grandeur.

The staff although usually friendly do not have the training and or experience to carry off the image the restaurant seeks to present.

The standard of food is never better than okay

The garden setting is lovely

Like many restaurants in NC and indeed all over the world I too have had a similar experience as Barry Boy at Patina.

regards

Doug

Hi Pipie

It's a bit to late for the manager to make ammends as we are back in sunny Wales, anyway going by the service we had I don't think they would be to bothered. We were'nt asked how the meal was, would we like another drink, would you like to see the dessert menu, it was a case of here's another tourist, there's your food, now bugger off. It's such a pity as I'ts a beautiful place but I'm sorry that's how we felt especially when we saw the bill, once bitten twice shy as they say

Well, my wife and I ate there last night and had a great meal. Staff could not have been more polite or attentive. Food was of a very good standard (grilled calamari starter, fillet of sea bream as a main and apple pie for dessert) and excellent value at 29TL each.

I would have no hesitation in recommending the restaurant to friends

It would be a boring old world if everyone agreed all the time

Many restaurants in any country offer better service to a regular like fiendishpaul and panchocat. It is human nature but unfortunately bad manners.

Try walking in and saying "hello, how are you" in a friendly manner to the maitre d and shake his hand, most times he can't remember you but thinks he must know you. Result better service!

I notice Barryboy said he wouldnt recommend it, you said you would. I do notice you say that no one should take account of what he says, but then expect us to take acoount of what you say.

This is a forum , that means we can all put down our experiences good or bad ,and leave it for the reader to make up his own mind. Just because I disagree with someone does not mean they are incorrect in what they consider happened to them ,merely that my experience was different.

All you had to do was say you were in The Patina and thought it was good and recommend it,while accepting Barryboy had a different experience, rather than put him down.

I also found The Patina fine ,but that was me and it was when I went . I would recommend based on my experience while accepting that based on his experience, Barryboy should not recommend it.

RE msg 1, BarryBoy: Brits are known all over the world for their very special British humour (although mainly and even only appreciated in the UK) and their moaning and whinging. Go home and try a restaurant in London or another large city. What a sad thread again.

Re msg 21 DutchCrusader, Maybe a sad thread in your eyes, but I was there you weren't, would you have accepted the bill? it was not a moan or a whinge I only asked a question & stated a fact which I thought this forum is all about. I am home & going to a restaurant tonight where I know I wont be ripped off.

Sorry DC!

Actually girne29 ( aka grumpy old man)

I did not say that. I said:

I hope people make up their own minds and do not heed your avoid advice.

I do not see that as telling people to ignore Barryboy's advice, merely expressing a hope that people make their own minds up.

breezyboy even regulars have to go for a first time and when we did the greeting was friendly and warm and each customer was greeted in the same fashion.

Anyway where ever you are eating tonight, tomorrow or whenever, Bon-appetit to one and all.

barryboy. my advice is if you were not happy with your service dont go again but seems a lot of people that use Patina are very happy with service etc. Maybe next time when you try to get there attention try saying Hesap Luften.

BarryBoy - surely, even the most basic grasp of the Turkish language would include "Lutfen" - "Please".

Mind you, I can see your point of not taking a risk with possibly cleavers, kitchen knives, etc. in the immediate vicinity

you know steve i wosh people would tell us at the time, not go on trip adviser or here.I go to every table and if anything is sent back i go to the customer to find out why. Tonight we had a couple in ordered garlic and white wine prawns in a chilli sause, and a starter of spag bol, to follow angus steaks. Now you can cut our steak with a spoon. Half came back from the gentleman. We were horrified. Went to see him , he replied, nothing wrong but i want to drink, what can you say to that. In all of our time here not one person has left a morsel of steak/ I did not know if i should charge him but in fairness to him when they asked for the bill, he said charge me for the steak its me not you. On behalf of my little stray i thanked him xxxx. I just wish people would tell you so you can amend it and not every one else xxxxx

Folks, always ask for an itemised bill... then you know what you are being charged for. I think they are required to provide one by law so if they shrug, say your are not paying until you get one. It will appear... as if by magic.

Lilli, That must have been Gulliano's at the Knap, Rabbiottis is no more, they've demolished the whole block, got some nice restaurants here especially down Cardiff Bay, did call at Guido's while we were on holiday, but it was in the afternoon & you were closed
