If you don't want to change the overall size taken up, take a note of the overall dimensions of your sink/drainer and visit the shops and Yapı markets selling sinks.

They are fairly inexpensive, ask them about tradesmen to fit your new sink.

If you want a tradesman to cut a new hole for a larger overall installation, that will cost a bit more.

Be very careful, these plumbers can soon drain you of your cash because they think we are all flush ) but you cant really blame him for plugging his own service.

2 things really the stainless steel sink i have is quite small and i spilt some descaler on it so it is now marked. I want a sink a little bigger and preferably not stainless. So i suppose the hole would have to be slightly enlarged. The tap is ok though.

Deniz1,

I's amazing how that Tuz Ruhu manages to discolour 'Stainless' steel isn't it? - I think that there are various grades or degrees of 'Stainless'

You can get the marks out with patience - a damp sponge & some slightly abrasive surface cleaner (such as 'Astonish', which is finely ground silica) and finish off with stainless steel cleaner - the white liquid sort.

Use a 'figure eight' motion not circular, or straight up and down, and you won't leave any 'tram lines'.

If the finish was 'shiny' to start off with, this works fine, but if it was a 'matt' or etched funish you're faced with having a shiny patch, or trying to do the whole thing - a dismal prospect!

I know that you're going to change the sink anyway, but I thought that others might find it useful if they have the same problem.

Deniz

All yapi markets sell kitchen sinks but they are usually too too shallow and small.

I had the same problem when i extended the kitchen few years ago..

just couldn't find a large & deep kitchen sink..they were all similar sizes..

found what i was looking for in Gonyeli..don't remember the name of the shop but they import Franke

http://www.franke.com/kitchensystems/uk/en/home.html

not cheap but they are the best available.

I would also recommend the shop in Gonyeli. They have a good range of Franke sinks & taps & 2 other makes as well. Not cheap, but then Franke isn't. We bought our Franke tap there, 3 mths ago & unlike Stainless Steel which usually water marks, this doesn't at all.

Directions. Assuming you have driven to Lefkosa main roundabout, turn right towards Metehan but take the 1st right fork into Gonyeli itself. The shop is on the RH side & a fair way up the road towards the end of the bulit up area. Don't make the mistake of going to the first shop on the right which also sells basins. This is not the right place.

It's actually easier, but not quite as quick, to approach Gonyeli from the RH turn off the main Girne Lefkosa road at the speed camera junction.

Linda, Hi hope you are well.

I got my new sink, looks like stone but is a composite, at the bathroom and kitchen show room near to the new harbour. (not the one at the roundabout, actually go down towards the harbour and it's on the LHS) They come in a variety of colours and are much easier to keep clean than the stainless steel ones. It is identical to the Franke one I had in the UK, but oddly enough cost far less!

I suspect that the sink you are talking about is a composite made by Astrocast. I too was going to buy one until I read about people who had bought them in the UK. & had problems with them developing (or coming with) cracks in the resin. A couple of people had great difficulty with Astrocast honouring their guarantee. This was in the UK.

I decided that life really was too short to risk a similar problem in the TRNC wher the blame would alsmost certainly fall on you, if the sink developed or came with a hairline crack.

Before you buy an Astrocast sink, I'd suggest you google it. You will then find the stories.
