I find this action very wrong and feel like someone has to correct it. Public forums such as Cyprus44 are for the benefit of all the members, NOT individuals. Once a question is asked by a member, unless the forum rules are broken that thread should be let running until it dies.. No where in the rules it says a thread could be closed by mods because OP was satisfied! Recent example is this> http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/43814.asp http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/43807.asp It's not correct closing a thread just because the original poster is satisfied with an answer or feels like the thread should be closed. Original question might generate more than one answer by some other member/s which might be useful in the future for someone looking for a similar answer. I had a look at the forum rules, and rule 2 says Do Your Little Research Before Asking..so members are encouraged to use information from previous posts..

H Iceman , i obliged their request as they had found a solution to their problem with transport , thus therefore saving a lot of people time and energy responding to what would have been a redundant request . You mention Rule 2 , but in reality , historically the majority of people start a new thread rather than trawl through past topics for what they are looking for . Fact i'm afraid " Thread was addressed no need for further posts " is a valid reason to close a thread . Take care , Simbas

Simbas, the poster wrote 'Mods you can close this now if you like thanks!' It wasn't a request, they were leaving the ball in your court.Just because you can close a post doesn't mean you have to.How are threads supposed to develop and expand if you close them down at the earliest opportunity?

Seems to me closing them is counter-productive to the idea of searching for the info as it prevents a new poster from asking a supplementary question if they feel they need more info... particularly with legal requirements etc. where we are faced with ever-changing regs. As for arranging lifts... well e.g. I want a lift to Ercan too, can anybody help me? No, as the original thread was closed I can't ask without starting a new thread, I open one I arrange a lift, I post that it's sorted... the thread is closed, then the lift falls through I want to ask again but it was closed so now another thread... on and on it goes. The reason to close ought to be to put an end to antagonism when it occurs...

The forum is here for all members so how come most dont even post ? loads just log in and look ! It would be very interesting for them to come onto this thread and say why ? I had to learn that its a very brave thing to do post on the 44 forum.and for some its just a place to hide and be down right nasty.even more so when they have a drink in them very late at night...even perhaps first thing in the morning too ! All the long standing members will recall my first few months on here with a smile )) and once i was shown how to put the smiley face on my post it all started to be so much more fun. ) Spider,X

AJ, I think your response to Mustafa is very rude. Mustafa, as a Turkish Cypriot, deserves more respect than the reply you have given. He's been around on various boards over the years helping people with all sorts of questions and does not post that often. The very least you can do is to reply back in a civil way and not the usual spout of "if you don't like it e mail Izzet" and answer his question the best you can, which he thinks is valid or he would not be asking. I really don't understand you AJ you never used to be like this, if being a moderator gets to you that much then give it up.

Ooops my fault the threads were started by me - frantic to find some transport at very short notice! I tried the 'man & van' in Cyprus Today but he was unavailable so my next port of call was C44, Unusually, I got no response (though I admit I was quite impatient). However you all have a valid point that the information (had there been any) could have been useful to other forum members. I shall now post another thread with the numbers I obtained from various sources (not C44) and hope they are helpful. Yours apologetically Maggie (now proud owner of some fabulous lounge furniture!)

Thanks Proger 1 - don't like to get in anyone's bad books! Msg 6 AJ - I thought that was a rather childish reply from a moderator - aren't you supposed to set a good example to the rest of us? Just my opinion - fro what it's worth! Maggie

Now that AJ (often the guilty party in closing threads) has managed to make himself, instead of the intended subject matter, the focus for long enough perhaps he could supply a reasoned argument as to the need to close threads that have no contentious issues and might want supplementary questions asked (even if the original poster was happy that they have had a suitable response). This was Mustafa's point, the threads on a public forum belong to the membership and should be left open. Close them if they become subject to unnecessary antagonism if you must, but surely the answer is to prevent the antagonist from further postings and not to spoil it for everybody else. Closing might even be drawing attention to the thread, I know I sometimes have a look to see why a thread has been closed only to find it's on a whim and not for any real reason.....

From the Board rules: "4. Respect The Forum Admins Forum admins have the final word. If you have a problem or a complaint, email Izzet off board. Do not post it on the board. Forum admins do not need to explain their actions. Do not complain about this." http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/rules.asp

Spider Message 17. My posting was not "picking" on AJ. I have not, as far as I can remember, ever commented about AJ on this board(only e mail to him)k but on this occasion we are talking respect for a member of the Turkish Cypriot community who is, in my opinion, on par with "Ismet" (Elko) and should be treated as such. Would AJ have done it to his face? AJ did not have to respond to anybody else but Iceman. After all, its AJ that has always told everyone to "mingle" more with the TC and here he is making a gesture that is deemed rude. Maybe its you that needs to found out a little bit more of whereabouts you live and what it means to yawn in front of someone and if you feel a yawn coming on close your mouth tightly then drink lots of water.

I am amazed at the number of people waiting for their chance to attack AJ. It was his way of saying that the subject was trivial and surely he is just as much entitled to his opinion and was not necessasrrily meant to be disrespect to the originator of the thread. On the subject matter, I agree with Iceman but I have no doubt that Simbas only tried to help fufill a request. No harm done. ismet

Disinterest in the particular subject matter, rather than contempt for anyone's opinion, I would have thought ! However, we are all entitled to our own opinions, & I think that everyone has expressed their own opinion by now - Or perhaps someone will think differently!

Elko, Not sure why you are amazed. AJ drew the adverse attention to himself. Maybe a lesson to be learned on the way to make friends and influence people. However unintentional it was, it was at lowest, bad form for a Forum Admin to try and stifle debate by belittling the topic. Why would he think the subject matter is trivial? I would have thought it was quite fundamental to the usefulness or otherwise of the board..... Closing thread makes the board less flexible. Creating multiple threads on the same subject. I think Iceman's suggestion has merit... If you find a thread boring or you are disinterested why bother to post at all?

Clairecat44 I think you may find that the list of candidates for election would be quite small ! It appears to be a thankless task , and on the whole the moderators do a great job for no reward. Sometimes a moderator ( no names ) may forget to put their mod hat on,and instead impose their own personality and views too much, but it's all small stuff. I think it most people gave up their time and tried tried the job for a week they may hold back in future on the petty sniping and grievances that the mods have to deal with. Just my thoughts !

You don't know Keith like I know Keith! He's crazy ape bonkers... but he is honest. He gets my vote... I never understood the original logic behind Izzet asking for volunteers.. I would've instantly discounted anyone who nominated themselves. Much better to have an election. Plenty of the current incumbents would still get my vote. I know everyone says it's a thankless task but is it really? It seems they are quite often thanked.
