On Wednesday September 1st the Civil Emergency Service Volunteers (the guys you sometimes see in orange shirts offering first aid cover at various events) are holding an Open Evening at Mountain View Hotel at 7.00 p.m. These guys are all volunteers who have been fully trained to work closely with the emergency services here in the TRNC and are on standby for any natural or man-made disaster. The evening will give people an opportunity to see exactly what they do with various exhibition pieces and scenarios of the C.E.S.V's in action.

They offer first aid training courses to members of the public and are always happy to welcome anyone who would like to further this training and join them. They are a friendly bunch and it is extremely worthwhile for anyone from 16+ who wants to give something back to the community in which we all live.

There will be representatives from the TRNC Emergency Services there to welcome you and it's a great chance to see what goes on in our community.

Yes there are many roles within the CESV organisation - do bring hubby along and discuss what he feels able to do. It's not all blood and gore!! Everybody is welcome and I think people will be surprised at just how widespread the CESV spreads its wings - it's a great service for everybody in the TRNC. Look forward to meeting you.

I agree that they do a wonderful job, but Im a bit cynical over TRNC at pres as why should we assist a country that only wants to rip us off !!

Yes I am one of the homeowners facing an auction of my house, the builder says he will give us our deeds for another £25k plus a piece of land, but I thought thats a good compromise but now almost every builder is at it charging more money than stipulated on contract!

We Foreigners put a lot into the TRNC coffers by way of living and raising charity work and doing great things within the whole community, but do the Government ever support us when its blatant theft and fraud as well as corruption, no! they dont, so until things start changing I would advocate NOT Supporting any monies raised for Hospitals etc (sorry as I am a generous man but the straw has broken the camels back!1)

I wish I could write and support the TRNC but at the moment I cannot, and will not until we as foreigners start getting respect and treated as equals!!

I do understand your viewpoint Message 6 but remember the CESV's do great work for everybody in the community. You will remember the ex-pats whose houses were under threat in the recent Karsiaka fire were extremely grateful to the CESV's who were on hand to fire fight and attend to the injured. It is a very slow process but unless we try to show by example that not everyone does things for what they personally get out of it things will never change. When you have been virtually cut off from the world for many years it must be difficult not to pull up the drawbridge and just look after your immediate family. The many voluntary associations here (mostly run by ex-pats) do a great job and, from personal experience, I think that very slowly the local awareness of 'charity' is growing though we still get asked on many occasions "Why do you do this?" I truly hope your situation can be resolved in some way, in the meantime, we'll keep plugging away to try to improve things for everyone.

I think Ang1706 wishes there was some way one could identify the rogue builders and leave them to rot by the side of the road...

Don't forget the CESV open evening tomorrow at Mountain View starting at 7.00 p.m. You will be surprised at the amount of work these guys do for the good of the community. Come along and have a cup of tea or coffeee with us.
