Hi Ice,

You call that competitive racing?

Looks like the driving standards on the kyrenia to lefkosia road.

Well this bloke thinks Vettell was more than a bit clumsy.Jenson said the track was dry where the collision happened.Alonso was in one or two mishaps as well.My god done well 21st to seventh.I also took £3 of my boy because he picked Webber to win,if he had not had a nap at the start he would have won.

Reminded me of "banger racing" mind Red Ball team say Button braked early !!! Button denied it. As already said 3 shumts in one race, did Vettel leave his brains behind!!

Vettel is now on my list, together with Schumaker (remember what he did to Damon Hill?)..... and Estate agents, bankers, lawyers and solicitors.

" w****r " comes to mind !! Team talk also comes to mind !! Great win by Lewis , but it should have been a 1-2 for the Brits . I fear for F1 , i hope it doesn't end up up like the touring cars fiasco !! " Knock anybody off if you like , we will just give you a little fine for your trouble " !!!!!

In my opinion, it was a racing incident.

Overtaking (even at a damp Spa) is rare in Formula 1, so you have to take any opportunity you get. Vettel is still relatively young remember and when Button was in his 4/5th season, he was making these sorts of mistakes, I remember him taking out DC in Bahrain not too long ago with an over ambitious move.

And forget Vettel...what about BARRICHELLO?? ha ha, that was crazy.

Nicolas ........racing incident my arse !!! It was calculated to prevent McLaren having a 1-2 !! He knew what he was doing alright ! F1 is a big money sport and every point is so valuable to every team . These drivers calculate their manouvers to the inch !! Button was clear of Vettel but he wouldn't concede !! Come on wake up smell the coffee , there is BIG money at stake here !! It has put Button out of the race for the number one spot. I just hope that Jensen gets the chance to " block" Webber in the near future and allow Hamilton the chance to take the crown.

How can it be a calculated crash when clearly Vettel was much faster than Button on the track and had more points than Button in the championship..if it had been a back marker involved in the crash, i can understand but Vettel had more to loose than Button in this incident.

Button happened to be in front of Vettel at the time only because of the mishap Vettel had at the start.

Vettel was lapping almost a second faster than Button and it was only a matter of time to overtake him.

Don't forget, crash happened in the 16th lap, and there was 2/3rd of the race to go yet.

Why would he go and deliberately throw away his chance of winning the race?

You are all thinking bias just because Button is British.

Iceman, I don't thinking anyone is saying it was deliberate (for the reasons you state) but it was poor driving practice and he didn't fair much better through the balance of the race.

The race stewards adjudged him to have committed a foul by causing an unnecessary collision and he was punished with the drive through penalty. Not driving up to the standard required of a F1 driver.

The McLarens were faster than the RBRs in straight line speed. Button was nursing his broken front wing until the next pit. Then he would have regained his speed advantage. As his problem was one for him to defend, that he was doing admirably until Vettel lost the plot. It's not insignificant that Vettel has now built up a rep for crashing into other drivers.

Vettel didn't cock up his start, Webber did. I think Vettel was passed by Button in a great manoeuvre. Vettel was being touted as the next Michael Schumacher, he certainly has the red mist but I'm not sure he has the skill to match it.

Vettel's exact words after the race was ""I tried to out-brake him on the outside. When I changed from the inside to the outside, I lost the car under braking on the bump and then I then I couldn't really control it anymore and unfortunately crashed into him."

More or less..what i wrote in msg:6...

anything is possible at the speed and proximity they are racing..."a bump" on the track is enough to throw the car out of balance!!

Was an unfortunate accident for both drivers.

It was a bit of a hit and run though... He was fortunate to be able to continue on into the pits for repairs whilst Button was put out. If Button had finished second and Vettel had been out, loads of points would been gained by Button.

Yes accidents do happen - but Vettel's record is poor. We all want keen competitive driving skills on display - for Vettel I think the jury is still out. I'm not convinced he has as much skill as he has confidence in his own abilities.

I make you right there Groucho. Vettels record is poor, remember he even had a coming together with his own team mate !!

Iceman....yes probably right about the British bias but Vettel was penalised for it by the stewards They saw it as bad driving so i think that sums it up !

These Germans are certainly putting it about a bit lately !!

Vettal always reminds me of a spoilt kid if things dont go his way the dummy gets spat out and the bottom lip drops, is it trait with the Germans.

I think it must speak for its self the amount of pole positions he has had but the non-conversions into wins, just compare it to Button last year, if you recall they both have similar setups in so much they both had cars that caused controversy, but Jenson managed to capitalise on the one he drove.

So the 'Gnome' finally converted his 10 polls in THE class car of the field into a winning streak... !

It was clear he'd be champ one day, but I SO wish it had been Webber... and I STILL don't forgive him for knocking out Button in Spa..

The lad is going to be one of the greats and I hope he is as good as an ambassador for the sport as JB was this year...

Thought the F1 season was fantastic and the quickest racer won. Always enjoy watching Vettel and he deserved the title. Would of been an anti climax for Alonso to poodle round ahead of Webber ensuring he got 4th.

Massive respect to Petrov, the pressure of Alonso on your tail for that many laps must have been awful and he didn't put a wheel wrong and kept decent pace.

Great season and sure next year will be a great spectacle.

Only downer this weekend was Spurs winning & Harrison not be knocked out cold.

Off thread: ... well done Stoke, Sunderland & Villa ..... C'mon Arsenal !!!

Vettel, at 23, is the youngest ever World Champ.

A bit of petulant over enthusiasm earlier in the season was only to be expected from one so young.

Webber hasn't been my cup-of-tea this season, his earlier 'alleged' comments about retiring if he won, to go back to OZ to drink wine and go fishing, have dogged him all season and I can't forgive him for his radio comment on winning the British GP, 'not bad for a No 2 driver'.

Massa was on a used engine, ex Monza. Used engines are usually down 20-40hp, perhaps why he couldn't pass a very cool Petrov.

Tip for 2011?

The Mercedes of Rosberg and Schumy have shown great potential in the last 3 races and Ross Brawn is probably still the best Manager and Technician out there.

Great cliffhanging finish to a season at an amazing circuit, well done Vettel!

re msg 3

Don't you think that 'Alfonso', Webber and Vettel weren't on used engines... ?

For sure, Mercedes have been investing in NEXT years car ( whilst RBR, McLaren and Ferrari have tried to develop THIS years car the the n th degree ) and may well 'surprise' next year

Next year brings back KERS - and driver-adjustable rear wings ..
