Sorry this is not about NC, but I know many of you on this board are ex-military.

Bill Millins the famous D Day Piper passed away on August 18th.

He was the personal Piper to Lord Lovat and his Special Service Brigade. He went ashore on D Day unarmed except for his Skean Dhu and pipes. He was also the only man wearing a kilt.

I hope they give him a suitable send off.

They should give him a statue in his memory, not just a good send off.

He was a lovely man, came as Guest of Honour on an Airborne Forces Day and played his pipes.

Very modest and had so much respect for his boss- Lord Lovat!!

Yes Dublinderm, thats the passing away of proper history and well done for mentioning it.

He also played his pipes as Lord Lovat and what was left of the Paras, who dropped in to take the Merville Gun batteries ,as they went to link up with the OX and BUCKS at Pegasus Bridge. This again was whilst there was still serious fighting and its legend that on hearing the pipes the Germans left!

Yes the passing of a great man!!

Couldn't agree more. I had the privelage of attending a Burns Night Regimental Dinner where as guest of honour, he piped in the haggis. A truly great but modest man.
