Went to the Punjab just before 1pm for my Sunday lunch. As we finished ordering our food our friends came in so we joined them on another table. A drink order was taken and we were asked if we wanted to wait and eat at the same time as our friends, which we said yes to. At just gone 2pm my table was still waiting for the starters so I asked where it was. As I was now pushed for time I asked them to bring the main courses for my wife and myself as we had not ordered a starter. By about 2.20pm our food was brought to the table. I tried my curry only to find it cold. I had no time for a fresh one to be cooked as I was hosting the raft race which was due to start at 3pm. I was told that it would not take a minute to heat my food through. My wifes food was fine. At this point enough was enough so I left my wife to finish with the rest of the table and hurried across to set up the equipment for the raft race.

I said to my wife that I was not prepared to pay for any of my order which included a coke and a beer but only to pay for her food and drink. When my wife joined me at the raft race she told me that as she had only paid for her food and drink (not my cold curry, coke and beer) we would not be welcome back at the Punjab.

We have been regular customers at the Punjab ever since it has opened and have introduced many people to their restaurant over this time.

What is it now, we are not allowed to complain anymore?

Heartman,

Go back and see Riaz yourself he is always a very reasonable and pleasant man. I take it that one of the waiters said you would not be welcome back and not Riaz.

The coke and beer was fine but it was all part of my order whilst I sat there for 1hour 20 minutes waiting for a cold curry.

When I was working in the UK, a great part of my job included entertaining clients, so I'd normally be eating out for 2 if not all 3 meals a day, at some of the finest restaurants.

When complaining, it is up to the proprietor of the establishment to offer you a solution to your problem. Having read your post that solution was offered. You were told the food would be heated and it would take less then a minute. Consequently I can't see why you would have a grievience.

Steph, we still don;t have all the facts. We don't for example know at what time the friends arrived, at what time the friends order was taken, both important facts here.

How long did it take for their friends food to be cooked? What did they order? Was their's an unreasonable wait?

I've never eaten at the Punjab, prefer cooking a fresh curry at home myself...

Gooner that may account for the wait but still no excuse for the cold meal, which is unacceptable, perhaps they cooked it and it was ready, waited for their friends meal to be cooked then forgot to microwave it ?

anyway I am actually going to agree with Zerochlor try another establishment there are plenty more of them

I was shot down in flames on this forum when I criticised Punjab once. I even went back and gave it a second chance, not my cup of tea. Each to their own I suppose.

Al Shaheen next door is wonderful and Abbas is a lovely host.

Give them a try, the Sunday lunches are great.

I think you should have paid for the drinks though.

Somtimes there can be hic ups in the kithchen. But if customer is kept waiting , and things are not as they should be.

Then it is up to the managment to try to ahceive a satisfactory outcome.

If somthing like this happens at my Indian Restaurant in the UK. We would not charge for the drinks, the drinks are part of the whole package.

In fact we would go out of our way to appease the situation. I have always found Riaz also to be very helpful.

May be call back and talk to Riaz. I am sure he values your custom.

Funny I thought the ping was to let waiters know when an order is ready to go out not the chef to let him know the food is cooked.

Well said Jashan-Indian, Too many people come on Cyprus 44 and rubbish a restaurant, shop, ect just because they were'nt happy with them, people on here are allowed to name the person/place but we dont often get to hear the other side of the story. Dont you people realise that these people are struggling to run a living here,i see it all the time and when people read these negative comments they start boycotting the places, ive done it myself,we.ve past a place where my husband says ''shall we eat here''and im ''Nah, ive heard people arnt happy with there''which is so wrong.you people are actually bringing cyprus down yourselves with all your moaning, people in the uk who maybe are thinking of moving here or having a holiday here can certainly be put off with all they read on this forum. This is a lovely country, its not paradise try enjoying the life in it instead of glued to your pcs rubbishing the place.

We should all note from this that there are 2 sides to every story!

Riaz I think you missed the whole point. A customer does not wish to go to a restaurant and pay their prices and get a microwave heated dinner. As a business man, you should have not charged him at all. The drinks should have been on the house for the inconvenience caused.

As to the the food arriving 1.5 hours later, just as well I can't eat curry.

We went for a meal at Jashan's last night.

Food was good, waiters attentive without rushing us, hot tasty curries, all in all 10 /10.

We were very happy.

Dear Riaz! We have eaten regularly in one of your restaurants in the past years. We were satisfied all the times except one time - and then you solved our little problem in a way that could not have been done better in Holland. Keep up your good work and don't let moaning & whinging Brits (& others) talk you down. You are an example for many other restaurants. Good luck.

Perhaps it's about time that I said something as I was the one that was there ALL the time, not just for part it.

first of all - message 31 - Riaz: We arrived at 5 mins to 1 and our friends arrived at 5 minutes past 1 - not just 'later on'.

Our friends order was taken and popadoms were brought to the table but Heartman had to ask if the starters were coming and this was around 2pm. 2 mixed starters and a Tomato soup was then brought out around 2.10.

Heartman, then realising it was so late, asked for our 2 main courses to be served.

So, around 2.20 our two meals were served to us.

My chicken roast was absolutely fine, as I would normally expect from the Pujab as we have a Sunday dinner there every week.

Unfortunately, Heartman's Chicken Madras was cold. He brought this to the attention of the waiter but asked for Riaz to come to the table. He then continued to explain that the food was cold and he now had very little time left as he was hosting a local event. ......cont....

im glad the other side of the story has been heard and that should be a end to it on a public forum?

im also glad as i know you and your staff work very hard to make a living and the service for me and food allways good.

im also glad as i dont have to go anywhere else if i fancy a meal ,and a sunday dinner .

Riaz did then say it would not take a minute to warm up. Heartman then said he did not want microwaved food and told him not to worry as he now had no time to wait for another meal to be cooked. He left me eating my dinner with our friends with instructions to settle my account for my dinner and my 1 glass of wine but on no account to pay for his order because he was very upset and disappointed as we are regular customers who have introduced many of our friends and always sung it's praises.

Finally, I wish to address the comments made by Riaz saying he has never barred anyone from his Restaurant and we are always welcome back. WELL, come on...Riaz, this is exactly what you said when I paid for my order only... "You will not be welcome back here". My friends were at the table and in earshot. This is exactly what you said. I am not in the habit of lying or having a go at restaurants on Cyprus44 !!

But there....it had to be said.

Oh, and by the way, Dutchcrusader, if you knew us, you would know that neither my husband nor myself are 'whinging Brits'. If we have brought this issue up on Cyprus44 we must have felt very strongly about the situation. We spend much more time out there enjoying life than we do sitting behind the computer making 'Holier than thou' comments.

RE msg 44, nannycyprus: You make a full drama of a very small incident that could have easily be solved when the people concerned would have spoken without excitement with Riaz. I don't like it when people start damaging shops, restaurants and what have you for silly little reasons.

P.S. Did Heartman pay already for the beer and the Coke..?

Heartman, I don't think you would be too pleased if someone slagged you off and discouraged others from coming to see you play, yet it's ok for you to post this? It's ok to complain, but there are always 2 sides to every story and making a drama out of it is a bit OTT don't you think? It's hard enough for people to make a living here as it is (you included), so why dont you give them a break? Riaz is always nice and polite and your comments certainly wouldnt deter us from visiting again.

Elliecy, I must admit it is over the top to complain on any forum for just geting a cold meal but when I was told that we were not welcome back in the restaurant THAT was when I had to make my point. I have been served bad meals in other places and have never made it public and have returned to give them another chance. My wife was told by Riaz not a waiter that we were not welcome over 1 beer and 1 coke that I refused to pay for as I considered it part of my meal that was served cold. Is that OTT to a customers who ate there most weekends?

Hmmmm - all in all, I think you should have paid for your drinks (because you drank them !!) but not for your meal (which you didn't / couldn't eat)

Saying 'I'm not paying for the drinks (which you drank) because they were part of the meal' is, to say the least, disengenuous.

Just my opinion, of course. (Awaiting the usual tirade of senseless, illogical, bigoted, etc. etc. comments from the C44 'intelligentsia'.)

Sounds like it was a busy and stressful time for all at the time. Result was not good for either side. Time for some diplomacy, compromise and gesture of goodwill and understanding on both sides perhaps? Perhaps Riaz might want to make the first gesture to resolve this to the satisfaction of all?

One serious inane conclusion to this post is to suggest that 'Heartman' returns to the restaurant and pays for the beer and coke which was consumed and see how the Patron reacts.

Can I just ask does anyone else time their meal when at a restaurant?

Time from course to course?

Time from start to finish?

I don't know what all the fuss is about, depending upon what you are having and the type of restaurant/food, most establishments use microwaves.

If it had been heated up once, better that it's not re-heated a second time.

As for the drinks......error in judgment.....kiss and make-up!

Some top restaurants have a time limit for diners

Diners at some top restaurants are paying more than £1 a minute for the experience because of the trend of "table-turning", according to a survey.

About 15% of leading restaurants now ask diners to leave their table after a set time during peak hours to allow another party to eat, the report by lastminute.com found.

More than half of diners polled (51%) for the study named the practice as their top complaint about restaurants.

The time limit means diners at Hakkasan in London are paying £1.23 a minute based on a £148 meal for two over two hours.

Customers at Midsummer House in Cambridge are paying £1.16 a minute for a £174 meal for two over 150 minutes. Other restaurants found by the study to charge more than £1 a minute are London restaurants Zuma and Hibiscus, and Simpsons in Birmingham.

Lastminute.com spokesman Mark Bower said: "Diners understand that restaurants have got to make money and that one way

Last week, I went into a shop to look at pressure washers. The owner showed me four different models. One of them (380TL) was just what I wanted. The owner said that I could have it for 340TL. I thanked him for his time and walked around the shop looking for a 3/4 to 1/2 adapter for a water pipe.

As I looked around, I was thinking, "I will get that pressure washer for 300TL" - I slowly made my way back to the pressure washer and was surprised to see the owner of the shop opening the box and laying all the pressure washer's different attachments on the shop floor. He was showing someone else that all was 'present and correct' - they had agreed to buy the pressure washer whilst I was dilly dallying around the shop.

The moral of the story...........................make one up youself!

I will be popping into the Punjab Sunday and having a word with Riaz so we can get all this sorted. I have, and now looks like, will be having many good meals in there.

Riaz, if I was rude I apologise and will see you Sunday when I pop in.
